Do companies still do Holiday Bonus? Anyone get one?

I had several jobs and xmas bonuses were/are a thing. Everything from a ham or turkey for Thanksgiving and or Xmas to 1 week (40 hours) paycheck or cash.

I was never a salesman or a manager of some kind for most of my working life and only a specialized motor vehicle parts guy for about 20 years.

3 things i always do with bonuses, appreciate i got the bonus and say thank you to the person or people giving it to me. Never rely on receiving one, other peoples problems showed me this flaw. And especially a bonus for monthly sales or service, thank my coworkers usually with a breakfast sandwich or lunch. Because in aftermarket auto parts my sales and service can't fully happen without help.

Corporate NAPA (i worked there for nearly 5 years and 3 as an assistant manager) their holiday bonus things had changed throughout the years. But a store/company bought meal was a nice one and was the last change i experienced over 2 years ago when my illness and disabilities made me quit.

I've worked in textiles for almost 40 years, and essentially it's been a dying industry the entire time. There have been a few good stretches -- early to mid '90s was a good run -- but mostly it's been a question of working harder and harder for smaller and smaller margins all along the way, while watching companies fold at an increasingly rapid rate. Which is to say, bonuses were a rarity. From the mid-2000's until 2018 I was the Director of my department in a company based in New York City, and there were a few years in there when I got holiday bonuses. A couple times they were pretty hefty, at least by my standards; equal to a few weeks or even a month's salary. But all that stopped after the market crash in 2008. Since then I have never had a raise, not to mention a bonus. On top of that, in 2018 when that company went under, I found work at another company and took a 44% pay cut to get it. (I am not a department director at this company.) The owner here is friends with a farmer in the area, so we do get a free turkey at Thanksgiving, but that is the limit in terms of bonuses.

EDITED TO SAY: When I read this back, it seems like it may come across as bitter. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I've always enjoyed my work, and the people I've worked with. And in this industry, I have been extremely fortunate to have the career I've had.

The company I work for gives us a bonus at the start of December. Used to be added to pay cheque but is now gift cards for a major Grocery store chain.

In my opinion a welcome change...no taxes off the bonus. This year was $500.

When our company phased out the holiday bonus, our sales director instituted a and of year auction. Sales staff got so many points for dollars sold that could be used to bid on times like televisions, restaurant gift cards, etc. One year I ended up with 6 game and 2 turkeys. A very good haul and I was glad I had a deep freezer.

We used to have Christmas Party for employees and spouses. Now they all get a $300 grocery gift card.

I think a lot of them need it.

My last employer had a holiday luncheon for all employees, plus a separate party for my department. Retirees were invited to both. We all received a grocery store gift card. Most years if the budget allowed we got an extra day or two for the holiday, which we could take as time off or get paid holiday pay.
