What's new

Did any of you have a beard?

I had a full beard for a while back in the 80s mainly because it annoyed my ex MIL (aka The Dragon), but shaved it off after a while. Then again in around 2000 I grew a goatee which I kept for a while and sported at the wedding to the current Mrs P in 2001... I have thought about recreating it but it would be awfully grey now - my younger brother has grown one and frankly it looks pretty silly! DSC00041.jpeg

I've had some sort of facial hair since high school. To start with it was only a mustache, which I kept through college. Sometime in the late '80s I went to a Van Dyke, and after a couple or three years I began to fluctuate between a Van Dyke and a full beard. For the last 10 or 12 years I've kept the full beard.

Sometime in 1998, when I had been wearing a full beard for a couple years, one day I shaved clean just purely on the spur of the moment. When I walked into the kitchen, before I could even say anything, my wife just rolled her eyes and said, "OK, you're going to have to grow that back immediately."

Thank you all for the fascinating stories about the beard that you have told or continue to tell. I have no experience growing a beard, I've always shaved it off. At first, he used a Soviet electric razor, then various cassette models. And for the last 10 years or so, I've been shaving only with DE razors.

I had a close cropped full beard from perhaps my 24th till my 36 year. My skin was always very irritated, the beard was a kind of therapy. Then I had a moustache like British gentlemen (Anthony Eden). I'd shaved it off for some reason in my mid forties, then let it grow back in my mid sixties. My girlfriend, however, doesn't like mustaches.
