Sure, I will join in on the thread resurrection! For me it was the $5.00 '57 Super Speed (my birth year!) razor I found at an antique store that started this whole journey almost 5 years ago. For most you can still find a good vintage Gillette for under $20 if you watch. For modern, I would say an EJ is a good investment.
I already answered this thread but I'll do it again, the Wilkinson Sword Classic is IMHO the best crisis DE razor. It's available, it's inexpensive and it shave good.
Gillette tech's are hard to beat. But Smooth Edge safety razors on Amazon are under ten dollars and I've found them to be very consistent (I have two and both are good). Also, the Qshave Futur knock off. It is between 10 and 15 bucks and is adjustable and consistant. Good shaver.
I started out with the Baili's. The 3 piece razors are mild but efficient and capable of providing a close shave. Actually these razors are rebranded by a few companies and are well received.
My Rimei razor was definitely my best bang for your buck razor. It was around $2 and is my go to travel razor and gives a great shave. Quality control is hit or miss.
