Counterfeit Gillette Sensor Blades. Buyer Beware

Sure hope they don't counterfeit the DE Blades...at least not in the same packaging as the real ones...I like how I can guy blades with out having to pay for shipping like Amazon.

Is that a bad thing? I happen to have a super sharp Swiss-made vegetable peeler -- single blade, though.

Depends. Have you ever tried shaving with it?

I've bought carts on eBay. One trick is to look for people selling boxes that have store security stickers from somewhere like CVS on them. Stores aren't generally in the habit of selling fakes, and I haven't purchased any obvious fakes so far. I do have a couple of unopened boxes though, so there could be a surprise waiting for me in one of them.

Counterfeiting DE blades seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth. Cartridges have such a huge profit margin (due to patents) that they seem like a much better target.

In this picture the Gillette Rubie blades on the right, distributed by Brocter & Hamble Uk, Meybridge, Hurrey are suspected counterfeits, or at least kockoffs, of the ones on the left distributed by Procter and Gamble UK, Weybridge, Surrey. :001_smile

Well shut my mouth :blushing: Guess I'm proven wrong!
Don't under estimate people, if they can do something wrong, they will, even if it's easier and more profitable to do right.

Don't get too paranoid either. There are threads here where people are afraid they bought counterfeit blades when the company has simply changed their packaging, or has different packaging for different markets, or they got an unusually good deal, or they just got a bad shave from a blade. As far as I found the discontinued(?) Gillette Rubies and Iridiums are the only confirmed counterfeits. Could be wrong. But if any of the most common and loved blades start getting counterfeited, I bet you'll hear about it here pretty quickly and loudly. Unless the counterfeits are that good, but I doubt most counterfeiters are into quality control.

I must say that the quality of Rubies have gone down quite a bit ever since Gillette was purchased by Broctor & Hamble.

Seriously, why didn't they make enough of an effort to duplicate the spelling?
As I think someone on another thread said, maybe they thought they'd be less likely to get sued than if they use the legitimate P&G name, they could more likely claim they weren't really pretending to be the real company if they found out who was producing them. Yet they were still using Gillette trademarks, so I don't understand legalities of how someone may attempt to make counterfeits as legally as possible, if that's what was happening. :001_huh: I also noticed the UPC number is different, I'm not returning anything on a search.

Maybe they were having fun. If they were sold over the internet they probably didn't show the side of the box with the fake address, and figured no one would notice. I don't know if I read where anyone had tried the blades, but my guess is they probably weren't good enough to get repeat business even if the user didn't notice the writing.

Maybe they had a bad typewriter when they redesigned the packaging. There was a B where the P should have been (Brocter, Blace), or a very poor typist. (I also stole that idea from another thread, though I don't remember which one off hand.)
