B&B Community, I proudly present B&B’s next Brush Chronicle. Brush Chronicles are B&B's in depth examination of shaving brushes that puts them through their paces in all manner of uses. We hope to show what a brush can do and how well it can do it. The format is designed for one to two people to lead the discussion, posting regularly over the course of two weeks and recounting their experiences using the brush in question. The best Chronicles are those where many members join in the discussion and share their experiences. And the more pictures the better (even though I am a lousy photographer which is probably why I don’t post much photos to begin with). This time I have chosen a contemporary brush with a synthethic knot. It is time for the Razorock 400!
Here are my twins. The aluminium one I got very early on in my DE journey as a gift from my mother-in-law. The butterscotch is another favourite that I received relatively recently from master soap maker Boris @blethenstrom. I will be testing both (consecutively) as they have different knots.
The 400 is of course a hommage or dupe from the Rubberset 400 brush of yesteryear. This particular one has a solid aluminium handle with a 24mm Plissoft knot set at 57mm loft height. The weight is about 127 grams while the brush has a total length/height of 80mm. The handle fits very nicely in hand and the knot is soft, splayable, yet still has sufficient backbone to it. I have used this brush the most out of all my brushes and I am super in love with the design. I have plans to get the other 400s from Razorock as well, just to have the family complete. I call the 400A my Lather King, because so far I have not found a single soap it cannot lather and it pretty much always delivers.
I actually started using the 400 yesterday. My first lather was a face lather using Mark's Wonderfully Fierce soap.
A damp brush loaded for 20 seconds and after applying the first pass to the face looks like this:
Lather was somewhat translucent and appears thinner on screen than it did in the mirror. Still it provided a very nice cushion for the first pass WTG.
So far so good!
