What's new

Bought this old gilette razor from ebay. Can anyone identify please

I was wondering if this is a good razor. Listing said ''TTO DE Brit Pat 694093 Made England c1950s''

The patent number returns a lot of razors. Could someone kindly identify this.

Also is it any good. Supposedly it is brass. Is it a decent razor worth restoring and using or just good for display? Purchased it for £25 on eBay

I usually use a rocca r96 or a henson. Thought I might dip my toes into vintage razors.

Alum Ladd

Could be most likely nutjob stuff
Many Thanks for your help @dmshaver and @geneaut . I will restore it and hopefully it performs well.

Appreciate your help a lot
It's a Gillette Rocket, 1955 or later. Pre-1955 Rockets had Patent Pending marked. the 694 093 patent was to cover the centre bar notch, end caps and the speed pack blade dispenser.

There's also an outside chance it could be a razor from a No.59 Set, which was basically a Rocket in a fancier case and with 10 blades, which doubled it's retail price

In any event, it's the later English Rocket which is a fantastic shaver. Very smooth and highly efficient. If you weigh it, should come in at 71gms.

Hopefully from it's first shave you catch the vintage bug! We are quite lucky living in the UK in that regard, because Gillette England made some of the best TTO razors in history.

Look for an English Aristocrat Junior with the 430 030 patent number next. That patent covered razors from 1948 to around 1951. The bottom will be flat, like this.

the 430 030 razors are significantly more aggressive and efficient than even the Rocket. Maybe the most aggressive non adjustable TTO's ever made.
