Blade Wars: Personna Med Prep vs. Personna Lab Blue

A while back, Energizer Holdings announced that they were selling the DE blade divisions and rumors started that the Medical Prep blades would no longer be produced. I had a supply of 250 blades but to be on the safe side ordered from Robbins another 500 blades. I now have over a 12 year supply of these blades!
You're going to have to eat right and exercise just to outlive your blades!

Great work! Thank

I have been interested in your testing of Personnas. I'm not asking you to do this, but what do you think the outcome would be between Med Prep that is quite close to Lab blues and Red IPs which are clearly smoother than Lab Blues?

You're reading my mind. I want to find out. I've only used Red IPs once - and they were wonderful. Exceptionally smooth. They edged Lab Blues in a previous blade war. Of course, so did the Med Preps. I plan to pit Med Preps against Crystal - which I put in the Personna family, even though I've heard that Personna does not claim them. Then I'll pit the Crystal/Med Prep winner against my one and only remaining Israeli Red. Then I'll know which is my favorite "Personna" blade. My prediction is that the Med Prep will come out on top, but I wouldn't bet against that Red IP - it's one smooth customer.

Very nice read! I personally prefer Personna Lab to the Personna Med Prep. They possibly are the same blades, but I know that the Med Prep always leaves my skin feeling more raw, but with no razor burn. My beloved Personna Lab blades never left me feeling that way, except once when I happened across a bad blade, which can happen to anyone and any company, like Polsilver Super Iridium (from which I've encountered four bad blades, oddly).

Excellent review. I concur with the results since I've had similar experience using both for the past year. Reading Jim's comment that the Med Prep may be discontinued, spurs me on to do what he did and stock up. It is my favorite blade.

They are apparently the same blade, but the Med Prep has a slightly different angle on the honed edge. A great many people can't feel any difference between these blades - and if you're one of the lucky ones you should buy the Labs. If you can feel the difference you should buy the Meds - they last a long time and it's not going to be that much out of pocket at the end of the year.

My experience is that the Med Preps have better quality control, but in a box of 100 Labs I only had about 4 bad edges, so I wouldn't pay the difference just for that.

Same steel + different edge = different blade..
