better deodorant tom's of maine vs. crystal deodorant

I was using tom's of maine deodorant. I don't think it's a particularly good deodorant and the place where I buy toms at cost me 5 dollars a deodorant stick and I never tried the crystal deodorant. Costs around 5 dollars as well and is said to last up to a year. For those that have tried most, which is the best deodorant out of these two and please explain why if you could. thanks

You will certainly get a divided answer here. This topic has come up before and there are people on both sides of this. It will come down to what works best for you and not what works best for other people. I use an alum block (Osma Alum Block), which is more or less what the crystal deodorant is. I have been using the same one for well over a year and it is hard to tell that I have actually been using it. The alum blocks won't really keep you from sweating, but it should keep you odor free. As I have already mentioned, one product does not work for everyone! Another thing to try is to keep your arm pit hairs trimmed down as a lot of the bacteria that causes the odor likes to hang out in your moist pit hair. I just hit the pits with some clippers once or twice a month. This also allows the active ingredients in deodorant to make contact with your skin where it will do the most good. I would give the crystal deodorant a try, or if you already have an alum block, give that a try. If you use an alum block you will need to wet it just a little so it can slide over your skin.

I've used the Tom's and Crystal both. Tom's did not work at all for me. I've used the Crystal spray and Thai crystal rock for the last year and a half and both work great. As noted above, they won't stop you from perspiring as they aren't antiperspirants but they'll stop odor. Also recommend trimming the armpit hairs as that goes a long way toward getting maximum benefit from the Crystal. +1 on using the alum block if you already have one as it works just as well.

My experience echos this mostly, the exception being I haven't used the crystal but for a few weeks. And FWIW, it's not the "Thai Crystal" brand I am using, it is the store brand crystal deodorant from Sprouts, it does say "made in Thailand" on the label. I am amazed how good it works...I can go out for a run, be outside for extended periods doing yard work, etc and be sweating a gallon and still no stink. I am most impressed with it. It is very mild weather for us here right now but it's still sunny and 90+ degrees out so I think it's gone through adequate testing.

The Tom's I tried didn't work for me, not even a little. I liked that it was unscented but that was about it.

A little extra info, after the Tom's I tried Arm & Hammer antiperspirant/deodorant, it worked reasonably well but I hated how clumpy it was, how it streaked my T shirts, etc. It still didn't control odor as well as the crystal. Definitely sticking with it.

I love Tom's toothpaste but unfortunately their deodorant doesn't work for me. The Crystal rock deodorant works, and boy did I put it to the test this summer being outdoors in a hot and humid climate! The key to making the Crystal rock deodorant work is to apply it generously. I spend about 30 seconds applying it.

Toms by far for the sole purpose of if you buy the natural aluminum free you eliminate the risk of absorbing too much aluminum which is linked to Alzihmers disease...Crystal deodorant is 100% aluminum so the risk is through the roof.. this is debatable I realize but better safe now than 30 years from now not know my kids names...... Natural is always the better way to go. I use a aluminum free deodorant by Jason that contains no aluminum and works very well and I work in the heat all summer long.

I've used both and prefer Crystal Rock Spray Deodorant. Tom's (like many others) irritated my skin. The Crystal spray is potassium alum which, as I understand it, is a natural aluminum salt with larger molecules that can't be absorbed by your skin. Not sure if this is true, but so far all other "natural" deodorants like Tom's and Arm & Hammer have irritated my underarms. I may have to give the Jason deodorant a shot soon.

The crystal stick just didn't work for me so I tried and didn't like Tom's.
Now I'm using Arm and Hammer Natural for about $2.

I've never used the Tom's, but I've used any of the crystal deodorant's for well over 20 years, works excellent for me, and never any problems except when one slips from my hand and lands on the tile floor. The antiseptic properties of the alum have many other uses also.

I have used 91% alcohol in the past and now use Toms Natural Confidence deodorant with great success . On really hot days I use both , alcohol first . It helps to shave the pits first . Jasons natural deodorants have me smelling like I hadnt taken a bath in 2 days .

I think we can all agree all of our body chemistries are different and the way and triggers of what make us perspire are different as are the tolerances to these stresses that cause us to sweat. that said YMMV plays a roll here too Jason works for me very well but so does the Tom's ..... the crystals worked as well but not even close to either Jason being the best for ME and Tom's as a close second. For the OP keep trying until you find what works best for YOUR chemistry as our input will only help YOU so much.

I have a hard time with Anti-persperiants and some deodarants. I have tried Crystal with a hit and miss success but I have had no issues with Almay.
