Anyone tried Cremo Shave Cream?

Wow, I sure didn't mean to start some kind of riot about lathering/non-lathering creams..... My short lived experience on this board was that you could ask questions and get honest, gentlemanly replies and guidance if you ask for it. I did see that it was non-lathering and was thinking I could do a combo with the Williams Mug Soap because I found the lemony fragrances similar in them and frankly the Williams seems a bit different than the Col Conk that I've been using. Thanks to JB4647 for confirming my theory - I think I'll give it a try since it is free after all. I'm guessing that even as bad as some believe it to be, it's still gotta be better than Gillette foam out of the can (though that's a really low bar!!)

thanks for all the insights and for a chuckle at some of the replies :)

My wallet cries.
Hello, when I first started shaving, My brother had some creao and I tried it, and absolutely hated it. Still I was drawn in by its boastful words on the back. A few months later I went back and I guess I had the wrong mindset with it. I was expecting it to lather, when in reality it doesn't and needs a bit of water to get it slick. It feels like hsing hair conditioner to shave. Its still not my favourite shave cream, but when im travelli and need to pack light, I'll throw it into my bag and use it to hand lather. The smell is a little pine-y. For me it has its place.

Just bought and used cremo, i actually enjoyed the scent. Application felt a bit foreign, but i got an amazing headshave with it - Alpha +! But the application was that weird, still, i will give it a few tries and just rotate with my other products, i also picked up some williams, gonna try that in the morning

I've noticed that Cremo gets quite mixed reviews here. I picked some up yesterday at CVS. I'm mostly interested as using Cremo as a pre-shave/super lather. So this morning I applied Cremo as directed, then let it sit as I lathered up my shaving cream (TOBS Eton College). Then I applied the TOBS on top of the Cremo base. The Cremo orange scent is strong, but I don't find it unpleasant. My shaving cream is citrusy, so they didn't clash. I shaved with a fresh Feather blade in a 40s Super Speed. The result: a very, very smooth, close shave. I topped it off with my 4711 cologne (also citrusy), which is light enough for use as an aftershave. All in all, I'm pleased.

Some folks get hung up on Cremo because it doesn't provide some glorious pillow of lather. So what? It doesn't claim to lather and it doesn't. Big deal. It does provide an extra slick surface that my razor glides really easily over and a little goes a looooong way. It's scent is slightly citrus-y and totally inoffensive.

Cremo won't have you basking in the glow of some spa-like shave nirvana, but for its price point, it is a very good performer and does only what it claims to do. I like it.

Thanks to the group for all the frank and sometimes vitriolic feedback. I enjoy reading all these comments and some really did have me LOL (I bought it and cant wait for my rebate!) Scents are always so personal it is tough, personally I am drawn to more woodsy than citrusy. But I immensely using enjoy Cremo Bergamot and Lady Cremo Pina Colada. Maybe one day we can get a Vetiver or Sandalwood made. I really enjoy lavender as well, but that seems even more polarizing. But this topic was about Cremo, not scents. I use it, rarely with a brush mostly without. I like it a lot, in fact.

No problemo. I'm not one for returning things after I buy 'em so I figure the Cremo Cream would come in handy to add some extra slickness to my other creams.

I like cremo cream as a pre shave, let it soak in while i build my lather then apply lather on top. I find that it really conditions the skin and even sticks around for the second pass if you don't over-rinse between passes. I feel that it has it's place and I wouldn't think twice about using it as a travel cream in a pinch. Good stuff, if a little strong in the scent department.

I continued my Cremo trial today by using it straight-up, without a lather on top. Everything else the same: fresh Feather blade in a 40's Super Speed. Applied it as directed. The result was another smooth, close shave. Although I miss the lather, and perhaps the ritual of lathering up in a bowl, I'd have to say that Cremo works pretty well for me. Pretty much the same as BigNickel above. Gentlemen, I think Cremo warrants your consideration, especially given it's reasonable price. It'll keep it's place in my rotation.

Works OK. The description on the back of the product got me buying it : it was advertised as the 7th world marvel and that once you try it, you never want to go back.
Although it was not true, Cremo is a good shaving cream if you don't have the time to make a lather.

So I went ahead and bought a tube of the Cremo. I tried squirting some in the mug and lathering it with my brush. It wasn't like the soaps, but it did lather up some. I found it to be VERY SLICK when I just rubbed it on my face and shaved. I think the smell is pretty crisp and clean as well. I have also lathered over it with a brush which I didn't like as much because it made the brush a little more difficult to wash out after the shave. I think this product is going to be my go-to for travel when I don't want to pack up my entire den to get a shave. Also, I have filled out the rebate form which literally took 30 seconds. Buying this is a no-brainer IMHO since it's free!!

Thanks to everyone for their comments and feedback on my post!!!

Cheers,
Richie

Pros: Very slick, just splash with water for second and third passes, helps reduce razor burn, rebate was prompt.
Cons: No cushioning, messy, can't play with brush and lather. Scent strong (to cover up natural bitter smell) but washes off.

I'm probably in the minority but I like Cremo. It's the perfect thing for when I'm rushed in the morning (which is often anymore) and don't have time to build real lather. For what it is, it works. I have no problem with its smell. I get almost as good a shave with it as with real lather, and most of the time, that's good enough for gov'mint work.

Got PIF'd some from here and gave it a go yesterday. I was surprised how easy it was to shave with just a bit strange as so used to lather.
Didn't mind the scent but the blade gunked up several times. YMMV

I was in the local CVS yesterday to replenish my Witch Hazel supply and noticed this shave cream - http://cremocompany.com/product/mens

The funny thing was it had a rebate on it that says if you mail them the receipt they will send you a check for what it cost (which was $7.99). I immediately thought, this must either be terrible because they're giving it away OR it must be terrible and they're figuring on folks not taking the time to mail in the rebate. Anyway, I am looking to try some Art of Shaving Sandalwood, but trying to resist blowing more $$ since I've been shaving with a puck of bayrum from Col. Conk for the last 6 weeks and it doesn't look like it's hardly been touched.

Thanks in advance for your insights gents!!

Yes,I tried it once and to be totally candid,it was, without doubt,f the worst cream I ever used. Total trash, which is where it ended up !
