What's new

Any reformed night owls here?

sleep is only as needded as one feels;

'8 hours is reccomended' - by whom / for whom?

i'm in medicine - the body needs as much sleep as it needs - some (like myself) are happy & function on 3-4 hours of sleep - done so since high school;

my wife, if she had her way, she'd sleep 18 hrs a day!

i dont feel tired/stressed; in fact, it was a benefit during residency!

in bed at 1-2 and up at 5; sometimes this is after working til 2300 from 1000;

one just needs what 1 needs, sleep wise;

The best sleep aid with the fewest side effects is also the cheapest: ativan (lorazepam) 1mg about 30 minutes before you go to bed. This will help you reset yourself. About 30 days worth of using it should get the job done. There might be some withdrawal, but its mild (about 3 days of feeling a little wierd).

If you don't want to use RX, try cutting computer off and cutting lights down when sun goes down and take 1-3mg of melatonin about an hour before you want to go to sleep. Hmmmm, it's just turning that computer screen off that is the problem.....

Wanting for wisdom
I have a wife and a dog who think the day starts at 5AM and apparently dog is mine to deal with so I may stretch it and convince them 6:30AM is when to start but I'm doomed to rise early now. I've actually come to like it over the years.

I've been really bad over the past few months. Work has really picked up and is incredibly busy and so lots of days I don't get home until 7:00. So you'd think I'd be really tired, and I am, but I always feel like I just don't have any time to myself to do things I need to and want to do, and so I end up getting into this and that and before you know it it's 1:00 AM and I have to wake up at 6:45.

I need to change it though, I'm starting to get exhausted. I don't think I've had much more than 6 hours of sleep per night on weekdays since the new year. Sometimes it's more like 4 or 5.

And I'm someone who needs more, even 7 hours feels like too little, I should be going for 8, but to do that I need to be in bed shortly after 10, and I hate that feeling when you get home, take a shower, eat dinner and then oh it's practically bedtime already!

++1. Same here.

I'd like to say for the most part I am reformed, with tonight being the exception. I was asleep for a bit, then woke up. it is now 3:42 am here. Usually I find that expending enerygy like working out helps me fall asleep easier. I usually rock climb 3-4 days a week, amongst other activities. i usually fall asleep pretty easy though.
