Another way of flatening bottom of hole

A dremel ate one of my Lucite handles so I started looking for a hand tool to flatten the knot hole on my good Lucite handle. Tried a bunch of different things then came upon a newly sharpened 1/2" chisel which to my delight worked like a charm. Just keep cleaning out the debris and go slow, I have lots of time. When its flat enough then polish to shine, a sanding disc will eat into the bottom edge and leave a line.

Excellent tip. I certainly can attest that Lucite is relatively soft and when subjected to even moderate heat from sanding, it will become gummy.

Incidentally, for those using a sanding disc and having to deal with that line along the bottom edge, I've found that, if it's not too deep, the line can be removed using a sanding drum. To avoid scratching the bottom, fix the sanding drum low on the arbor (i.e., so that the adjusting screw head cannot touch the bottom). As always, a light touch seems to produce the best results.
