What's new

Am I being harsh, or is this just stupid?

Actually, about 2 minutes after my friend sent that link, I thought to myself "why not just use dice if you're concerned about it?".
If you get a little of that silly putty type of stuff they put under stuff on boats to keep them in place, you can stick a die to the mirror or wall.
If you're really dumb and can't tell the difference between a blade used 6X and 1X you can use a pair. If you have a 5 razor rotation, think of the money you'd save.

Maybe I'll package a couple dice and a glob of putty up with instructions and sell it for $6 as "Count Blade's Shave Tracking System and Portable Craps Game"

Two uses in one and a bargain at half the price!

A while back, a noob asked what the numbers on a DE blade were for. Someone else posted an elaborate scheme to use them to track not only how many uses the blade had, but to make sure he turned it over the prescribed number of times so as not to wear the edges unevenly! It almost sounded believable. I think it took a while before the OP realized his leg was being pulled. Hilarious.

Wait, you are supposed to flip the blade for even wear??? Why didn't any one tell me this?

Did you check the ingredients list on the package?

Ingredients: Suction cup, Paper clip, Marker.

THAT explains the bad shaves. Solar flares and coronal mass ejections disturb the earth's magnetic field, causing the blade to torque.

So is being at the bottom of the 11-year sunspot cycle better or worse for shaving?

Both. The so called Maunder Minimum reduces the number and intensity of CME (Coronal Mass Ejections) thus minimizing the disturbances to our magnetic field, but this also means colder winters, and a weaker magnetic field.

I thought that was common knowledge!

If the shave has deteriorated, it's time to replace it whether it has two or twenty uses.

Actually, you should replace the blade one day before the shave detoriates.

So, to answer the original question .... no, I don't think this gadget is necessarily stupid.

So, it's not a tracker, it's a predictor? Or, should you "spot" it by a day?

At any rate, I'll agree it's not necessarily stupid. It's unnecessarily stupid.:001_rolle

What if you just stuck one of these trackers on the headboard of the bed?
Would SWMBO mind? What would you track? Twelve whats? How long since twelve of anything?

This could make someone lots of money (like lawyers).

O.K., I'll be the first to admit that it's not always easy to keep track of how many times you used a particular blade. Especially when you have several razors and blades in a less-than-rigid rotation.

And I'll also admit that it's not as important for most DE blades as it is for a $3 cartridge. But regardless of what you're using, the proof's in the pudding. If the shave has deteriorated, it's time to replace it whether it has two or twenty uses.

But Noooooooooooo........

To paraphrase H.L. Mencken, (or maybe it was P.T.Barnum), "no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the British?? people".

Without further ado, I hereby present to you what has to be, IMNSHO opinion, the single dumbest shaving invention since the clam.

Anyone who finds themselves compelled to purchase this, please PM me. I have a nice little Louisiana charter boat business you may be interested in.
Be careful and keep this under wraps. I've heard that Apple is coming out with a competitive unit called the iShaveTracker!

You know, that would perfectly compliment the eighty year old razor I use daily.

Read my signature and all will be revealed.

If you have picked up a razor with a blade in it already that you haven't used in a couple of weeks and said... well, hrmm, is it ok?.... then just say to yourself... If I left it in there, I must have ok'd it.... and if its not ok by the end of the shave, I will know it... doesn't get much more complicated than that.
