Ach Brito Mongo vs Musgo?

I have seen both Ach Brito Mongo and Musgo soap offered but haven't tried either. Can anyone share the differences from their experience? @Brutus @fast shaver I hear that Mongo has been discontinued, but I still have a bar of it in storage.

You should also include @Marco when you ask about Mogno and Musgo and there is also 'Musgo Real Classic'.

He did a review about it: Ach. Brito Mogno, a new Old School classic

It's a long thread and I mean to remember, that 'Musgo Real Classic' was reported in that thread to be the same as 'Musgo'. If correct, here is a kind of summary:

Musgo Real Classic and Mogno have almost everything in common: same manufacturer (Ach. Brito), same ease of latherability, a very close ingredients list. Scent profile is magnificent on both, but much different.

Musgo Real Classic is, in my opinion, ever so slightly better in terms of richness and density of lather. But again, these differences are minimal and I think many wet shavers probably would not even notice them. I say so because I know I am a perfectionist, a pernickety person and often split hairs. The true reality is that both are FANTASTIC and both are worth keeping in the den. Absolutely.

Saponificio Varesino? Just as great, but with many complex scents, beautiful tins and matching bath soaps, after shaves and colognes.

But there was also a reformulation and others will surely give answers. I can't, I only shaved with ABM and still have some bars.

I've had great results with Musgo. It is reasonably priced from Euro or UK vendors.

I don't see too much difference in performance. I prefer the Musgo scent and that one might perform a little bit better. The Musgo scent is "classic", the Mogno scent is "for the younger person", IMHO.

It's debatable whether these concoctions actually qualify as soaps. They have added surfactants and such to boost the lathering ability. Imagine a shaving soap bar that behaves a bit like a shampoo bar.

I'll probably reorder Musgo, but I have a lot of soaps to finish off first.

I am inclined to give the nod to Mogno (R.I.P. - even though I have a few pucks left), but whatever advantage Mogno might have in performance it looses out to Musgo because of the odd shape that does not fit in many mugs.

It’s a wash…

I pictured Mogno going in a regular soap box that people would take when traveling, going to the gym, etc. It could be applied directly to the face like a soap stick and face lathered. I do this sometimes with smaller soaps like Haslinger pucks.

Yes, I get that.

The problem is that rectangular soap containers are not ideal if you want to load a brush with soap, let alone whip up a lather in that container.
Ultimately, I pressed the rather soft rectangular Mogno puck into a wide round bowl and wipe up the lather for the last pass from the sides of the puck.

As Mogno shaving soap has been discontinued anyway (I think I have maybe four left.), I no longer spend much time thinking about more suitable containers.
