What's new

A new Parker "51" aquisition

A positive note about the Parker 21. Danny Fudge is doing a nib swap from the Octanium broad that's on there now to an Octanium Fine. Only costing me $10 plus shipping. So, hopefully I will soon have a Parker 21 I can use also.

I got the 21 back in the mail last week. He didn't have any Octanium F nibs, so he put a F gold nib on it instead. So, now I have a unique pen, a Parker 21 with a gold nib.

You are a fortunate guy (I assume guy),
A. you catch a great “51”
B. You have the good sense to send the pen to Danny
C. You catch a nice 21
D. See B.

“51”’s are truly wonderful pens. I picked up a well used cedar blue vac with a stirling silver cap for $15.00 at an antique shop some 15 years ago. After I learned how to replace vac diaphragms I restored it and it has been a great pen.
My best “51” story involves a wheeled hobby horse my wife bought at an antique auction in one those “pile of stuff”deals. Another woman in town wanted the toy and knew I liked fountain pens. She offered my wife a trade for her dad’s pen. My wife knew enough about pens to make the trade. It turned out to be an aerometric “51” in the less than common forest green with a gold plated cap, in excellent condition. I don’t know about the toy, but I think I got the best end of that deal!
Enjoy those pens!

Considering that parker say they made a million Parker 51s I would like to add my 2 cents. My local church needed to raise some money and someone suggested an auction of donated items. The vicar offered his fountain pen, a Parker 51, to get the ball rolling. He had owned the pen since graduation, it was important to him

The auction raised thousands, the pen was the last on the list, bidding was vigourous between 2 bidders and it soon reached £250. Some say that they saw a tear in the vicar's eye as the hammer fell.

That evening, the vicar thought he must be hearing things as the letter flap on his front door made a noise, getting up to see what it was he found a padded envelope with his pen inside.

That's a great story. Thanks for sharing that!
