Pirate's Cove Bay Rum and Ginger

One of the best glycerine shave soaps out there, this stuff is superlative. The scent is sharp, masculine and has amazing depth. I use it for both my face and head.

As soon as it runs out i'm gonna make sure another is at hand!

I tried this soap for the first time yesterday. Today my Bert's Bees Bay Rum soap was religated to the shower. There is no better soap that I have tried that can beat it for value and quality.

Since the reviews are so positive I just purchased 3 pucks. I am sure they will be excellent.

Not much to add to what others have said. It's a good soap with a VERY strong scent. The scent stays with you just a bit after your shave.

Lathers well, and doesn't dry out your face.

Ships super fast. The price can't be beat!

I have been using the piratecove soaps for a while with awesome results and best bang for you buck..period. The paper does not come off easy especially being mailed USPS now its getting hot. Solution...unwrap the soap as well as you can....rinse the puck under warm water and the excess paper falls off and also gets that initial..layer of whatever it is off so it is shave ready. Like other i dry it on paper towels...but it in a pyrex condiment bowl and microwave for 23 secs and allow to dry....4 hours and shave ready! Also cool when you pull out of microwave...it is still steaming and you can really appreciate the scent. Bay rum and lime is my personal favorite and the menthol rocks!

I ordered the bay rum & ginger along with the bay rum & lime. I've been very pleased with both. They take some time to load my brush with enough soap, but after that make a pretty good lather. The reason I like them so much is the smell - they really smell fantastic. Not overpowering while you shave, just right in my opinion. Also, as a side benefit they made my new brush lose that horrible wet animal smell in record time!

Great soap for a great price.
It took me while to find it but it was worth it. Unfortunately, these soaps do not get enough coverage on this forum.
I have it for several months now and still smells wonderfully.

I just puchased a cake of the Pirate Cove Rum & Ginger.
I have to say with all honesty, this is the best soap I have ever tried.

I'm on my second Bay Rum, and I've also tried Lime and Sandalwood. I found all work nicely, though the Lime doesn't seem to lather up as richly as the other two.

Great scent on the Bay Rum, a bit spicy, a bit sweet, but not too strong or clovey as some Bay Rums tend to be. I'm a fairly young guy (26) and I wanted a classic smell, without smelling like an old man and the Bay Rum fits the bill.

As others have mentioned it does wear down a bit quick, but the price more than makes up for it.

This soap is fantastic - lovely rich lather, wonderful scent and it leaves your skin feeling great afterwards. I had to get mine via international shipping, which arrived without any problems. Tom at Pirate's Cove was very helpful on this aspect.

Very good soap for the price (Possibly the best deal around on a dollar for dollar basis)! Great scent selection and quality!

This soap does a good job of lubricating and moisturizing for a soap, though not as well as creams IMHO.

On the downside, I found it difficult to work up a good lather and the lather was a bit thin. I'm still experimenting. It appears you have to use more of this soap and soften it up a bit more than normal. The tissue paper wrapping on the soap is a bear to remove because it sticks.

Still, a good deal with reasonable shipping. I'd recommended it on those merits alone.

With a little experimentation, I got a very nice lather. It just takes a bit more soap, so you have to soften it up quite a bit and really load the brush up.

Not much to add to the other reviews. This soap has it all and it's 3 bucks on Ebay. Also, shipping is super fast.

The only possible con is that maybe it wears down a little faster than others. But for the price, who cares? Be sure to check out all the scents, especially the coconut...

I have this soap and really like it too! I also have the coconut and lime scents, but haven't tried them yet. I highly recomment it too!

I most recently used Col. Conk Bay Rum -- a very respectable, well-established brand -- but I think this soap is even better. First off, I bought it for $3.00 (!!) on eBay, which is an amazing bargain, especially considering that it is a quite large cake. Secondly, it has a more lingering and subtle scent (which could be the addition of the ginger). It is a rather hard, brown cake, which made me a bit nervous about the lather, but this concern proved to be unfounded. Although it isn't the very best lather I have experienced, it was more than adequate. Where Pirate's Cove excels, however, is in the sensuousness of the feeling. It is a soap that lubricates and moisturizes as well as the very best soaps, quite a bit better than most. After using it, I feel smooth and moist the whole day.

OK, there is one relatively minor negative. The tissue paper in which the soap comes wrapped is flimsy and gets stuck on the soap. This requires about five minutes of careful peeling and scratching to extricate the wrapping from the soap. You can see this very clearly in the photos in Joel's review of the Pirate's Cove Bay Rum and Lime.


Still, this is a terrific product for a great price.

Edit: The more I use the Pirate's Cove, the better lather I am able to produce. Because of the hardness of the soap, it takes a few more strokes to generate good lather. But those extra strokes are worth making, because this soap really does produce copious and sensuous lather.
