HOTEL RADIO SHAVE

Two Days Whiskers

I exhibit my Ashwood's Leather and Wool Shaving Travel Bag bought two years ago at TOOBS in London.

MUSIC: just the music that was playing on the radio at my hotel room.

PRE-SHAVE: Hot Shower

SOAP: Lea Stick (SP)

BRUSH: Fine Angel Hair 'Stout' Black and Yellow 24 mm (US) -

Nice little synth brush. Good for travelling. Looks like a 1.5 Chubby. This guy built a nice Lather on my face.

SR: Shick Krona (US) -

Good match with the Kai.

BLADE: Kai Stainless Steel (JPN) (2)

POST-SHAVE:

- The Barber Professional Allume di Rocca Stick (IT)

- Vichy Homme Sensi-Baume After Shave Balm (FR)

- Brummel Eau de Cologne (SP)

THE SHAVE: Sort of Auto-Pilot Mode, two passes plus some blade-buffing XTG on Neck. 9.5/10

Razor: bronze Lambda Athena
Blade: Viking's Sword (according to the Razor Blades Club, these are Personna blades from Israel, but I cannot find them on the web anymore.)
Soap: Murphy & McNeil Nil
Brush(es): 24mm Shave Forge HMW badger in Deep Blue Sea by Sawdust Creations Studio, as well as Muhle STF XL in Kryptonite by CaYuen Workshop.

I am slowly edging towards a fixed four, but still taking
baby steps.jpg

This is me next week:

Razor: Sticking with the Karve OC-B. I might go out of GRUYERE to get a C plate, which I think would be perfect. I love this razor but it is just a hair too mild. We will see.
Blade: Sticking with GSB although I will switch to whatever the Blade Bonanza blade is once announced.
Lather: Palmolive
Brush: Omega 10083
Splash: Forest Freeze (Forest Fresh with added menthol)
Shavette of the Week: Parker SRB...which I found in box having forgotten I had it.

Hi James! The photo looks like the safety bar plate. Having recently reacquired a Christopher Bradley, I agree with your assessment regarding the safety bar plates. If there was a B.5 plate, it would be my GOAT! In the far past, I found C to be a bit much as a daily driver, if I used it for 3 days in a row. However, time has improved my technique, even with me trying, and I think the C safety bar plate might be perfect. Maybe next week I'll follow you and have a Karve Christopher Bradley shave week!

Shave of the week Starting 2/24/2025

Razor...........Colonial CR7 (plate 3)
Blade...........GSB

Brush..........APShaveCo Cashmere
Soap...........Thor's Hammer Bay Rum
Post............Osage Rub/Witch Hazel w/aloe
A/S.............Thor's Hammer Bay Rum

Delightful start to the week. I find the Thor's Hammer SS lathers nicely and smells terrific. Scent wise it's the same for the A/S. The CR7/GSB combo is very efficient and comfortable. So my face is happy. Now go enjoy your day folks

FAITHFULL SHAVE

One Day Whiskers

MUSIC: Easy Come Easy Go, Marianne Faithfull, 2008 -

Miss this Lady.

PRE-SHAVE:

- Hot Shower

- Proraso Pre-Shave Cream Cypress and Vetyver (IT)

BOWL: Aluminium (PT)

SOAP: Royal Forest Shaving Cream (GB)

- Today the Lather was just perfect.

BRUSH: Semogue Hereditas Finest Badger 2040 HD 55x24 mm -

The name Finest here is erroneous. No Finest Knot here. Sort of a dense Silvertip. Good backbone due from being an HD.
It's a very good lather machine. It wiped out the remains of my TOOBS Royal Forest.

SR: Edwin Jagger De 89 (GB) -

A very smooth razor, a true entry level tool.
Many Wet Shavers started their journey with this one or the Mercury 34 C HD.

The De 89 is good for persisting with a social shave if you had a very close one the day before. Or when the skin is too sensitive for whatever reason and you need a mild and benign razor.
With that in mind it's quite useful having it in any Den.

Yet with a good technique and the right blade it can give a pretty good close shave. So it's also excellent for perfectioning the technique.

I love the classic diamond knurling of this babe.

BLADE: Kai Stainless Steel (JPN) (3) -

Lend some agressiveness to the EJ.

POST-SHAVE:

- 444 Alum-Block (PT)

- Proraso Lozione Dopobarba (IT)

- La Toja After-Shave Balm (SP)

- Herod, Parfums de Marly (FR)

THE SHAVE:

Three passes and a light blade-buffing on Neck. 9.5/10.

STRANGE DAYS SHAVE

Two Days Whiskers

MUSIC: Strange Days by The Doors, 1967 -

It seems those old strange days are here to stay.

PRE-SHAVE:

- Hot Shower

- Proraso Pre-Shave Cream Cypress and Vetyver

BOWL: SV Shaving Grail (IT)

SOAP: Stirling Bergamot Lavender (US)

BRUSH: DR Dittmar Bog Oak Premium Silvertip 55 × 30 mm (D) -

This Dr Dittmar good giant is a wonderful dense Silvertip. Nice tips and good backbone. A luxurious brush indeed.

SR: Wolfman WR1 Copper 0.94 OC/Darwin Handle 90 mm (CND) -

The Wizamet lended it a magnificent smoothness.

BLADE: Wizamet Iridium Super Extra Stainless (RU) (1) -

One of my favorites. Excellent match with this WR1.

POST-SHAVE:

- 444 Alum-Block (PT)

- The Bluebeards Revenge Post-Shave Balm (GB)

- Creed Aventus Cologne (FR)

THE SHAVE:

Two Pass very efficient shave. Amazing 10/10.

LYING DOWN LEOPARD SHAVE

One Day Whiskers

MUSIC: Essential Rarities from The Complete Studio Recordings (1999) by The Doors.

PRE-SHAVE:

- Hot Shower

- Proraso Pre-Shave Cream Cypress and Vetyver (IT)

BOWL: Coconut Shell (SP)

SOAP: Castelbel Gentlemen's Club Sea Salt & Grape Fruit (PT)

BRUSH: Zenith Silvertip 507 TA 26 mm (IT) -

I prefer Zenith's badgers over Omega's.
This is a nice Fan Silvertip with a very reasonable backbone.

SR: The Goodfellas Smile Syntesi (IT) -

Beautiful razor. Good ergonomy and efficiency. Smooth as silk.
The Slim Head is wonderful under the nose. And the profile is something between a Henson and a Blackbird. Very autopilot.
After my last very close shave with the WR1 this was what I needed to maintain a social clean face.

BLADE: Wizamet Iridium Super Extra Stainless (RU) (2) -

Impeccable. Very sharp.

POST-SHAVE:

- 444 Alum-Block (PT)

- Cella Lozione Dopobarba (IT)

- Lierac Homme Baume Après Rasage (FR)

THE SHAVE:

Two Pass WTG. And I was done.10/10.

My setup for next week
Feather AS-D2
Astra Superior Platinum
Pré de Provence Nº 63
Zenith 505AK Manchurian

20250301.jpg

The week with the Gillette NEW LC was nothing short of outstanding. The razor was even better than expected and made me realize I should really use it more often.

The AS-D2 selected for next week has been hovering over my sell/trade box for more than a year now. Let's see how things go.

Have a good day and a better tomorrow

I like how you put that, Benjamin! There may be some hovering here as well!

One that has permanently settled in will be used this week.

Tatara Amakuni
Schick Proline P-30, starting its 4th shave Sunday
Kai Captain Titan Mild Protouch MG for my 2 days off, used for 10 shaves to date
Noble Otter Bare
AP 26mm Pure Bliss knot in Sawdust Creations Studio Cosmic handle

Why two blades? Because one can very easily swap blades with the Amakuni's magnetically held top cap. It's fun!!
