Distinguished members, contributors, ladies and gentleman,
Scott here, your humble correspondent in Dade County, Georgia. I'm currently 46 years old, a former full-time opera soloist for 15 years, a tobacco pipe enthusiast from age 15, owner of a small business that makes tobacco pipe and cigar accessories and handmade cigar humidors, and owner of a small photography business specializing in creating fashion editorial, lifestyle, and artistic portraiture images.
I've owned a few straight razors since age 25 or 26, but they sat from the dates of purchase until now unused. I am finally really dedicating myself to learning proper technique, procedure, and blade upkeep. I'm truly an unseasoned novice, but I'm enthusiastic about learning from the many sage voices here.
My razors are generation 1 and generation 2 Filarmonica Double Tempered. I was told they are very good for factory made razors. Both are in pristine overall condition. For honing I have Norton 4k and 8k, Shapton 12k and 30k, and a hard leather strop on walnut that is impregnated with .25 micron diamond paste/spray. I've had these stones and such for years, and use them daily for my smoothing plane and dovetail chisels. Happy to add blade honing to my repertoire. My soaps are modern makes: A&E Choco Cubano and Incense & Oud.
Finally, I know that good razors, good honing, good soaps, and great face prep are still a long hiding to nothing without good technique. To that end I'll work, and thank you in advance for any constructive tips or criticisms you might offer along my journey.
Scott
PS. I don't actually talk the way I write.
My writing sounds like I'm trying to be an 19th Century Romantic. I assure you, I "ain't" (as we say in the south).
