A while back I had a little dialogue with @lasta about the wonderful Gillette Tech. And about how much we appreciate the excellent shave it can provide.

This morning was no different and notwithstanding the excellent thread that is Tech Tuesday I thought it would be a good idea to have some place to express that appreciation when shaving with a Tech daily or on other days than Tuesday.

Summary. Marginally better than yesterday in end result, but I had a wonderful time using this Tech.

The Flat Bottom Tech is a staple in shaving history and it provides amazing shaves especially when paired with a good sharp blade (that was less so today). Both newbies and veterans can get the results they are after with this one. You need little else to get daily great shaves!

I love my Techs. One of the best razors ever made. I use my razors on a weekly basis and this weeks Tech is my beloved NDC Gold Ball End Tech. I also like using them when I partake in the blade challenges that we have here.

I have a 1946 Gillette Ranger Tech. I get excellent shaves with it. My dear friend Vince found it for me at an estate sale and paid $5 for it. Sadly, Vince lost his battle with cancer several months ago, so that razor is extra special to me now. 1946 is also the year my mother was born.

I should use the Canada Tech tomorrow and let you know in more detail - but from memory alone I would say that they share effectiveness and that the Flat Bottom Tech brings a tiny bit more smoothness to the equation. But the Canada Tech is a great Tech on its own.

As you know, I had a lovely FBT replated by Chris @ Back Roads Gold.... But I never used it after the replate. I had good shaves with it when I did use it... but it was so early on and was my first venture into DE shaving, coming from an AC razor. I don't want to open another rabbit hole, but I've been thinking, a FBT might not be a bad thing to have around.... Would I use it a lot? That is the question..... with my current razor list, I do wonder about that.

I am going to hold off for now... so, there is no rush, but I'd gladly read your opinion about the two of them. As @BradWorld said, months ago now.... All the Techs are good and the differences between them are minor: noticeable, but slight. I do trust his opinion on the matter, but would be happy to add your comments to my brain data bank. <eg>

Think some people don’t get a cheap Vintage Tech is good razor.

Razor and blade. The razor is a dream - thanks Kim @Phoenixkh for your question, because otherwise I would have used a New SC today. It is effective yet smooth and comfortable. With a different blade this would have been a stellar shave I imagine. It is also the best shave I have had with this blade so far. Funny thing though is that Kim got his C-Tech from the Netherlands. I got my C-Tech from Canada. So two Techs went travelling around the world.

And I have to correct my assessment Kim: based on today's shave I feel that the Canadian Tech is perhaps more effective and definitely more comfortable than the Flat Bottom Tech. The safety bar is different (both have ridges and in addition the C-Tech has a what I would call somewhat of a horizontal dent across the entire safety bar - @lasta has reported on this earlier), but I imagine that this does not contribute to the experience that much.

Thanks, Guido. You rescued me from the rabbit hole. I’m quite happy with the Canada Pre-war Tech and keep it in that little odd triangular Bakelite box. It’s happy with its new home. <eg>

Thank you for creating this thread. I agree that the Tech is a classic razor that merits our respect. I have a plethora of modern razors, but I use the Tech to keep me grounded. It's a reminder that simplicity and quality can coexist.

I used a ‘54 Tech yesterday and could tell all day long it was an easy, comfortable, close shave. I can’t say that for some other razors I have no matter how much I try.

The razor is the all brass heavy ball end UK Tech although I have used one of my @lasta handles. Using this razor earlier I actually think this is the most effective/aggressive of the Techs I have - but with this blade it is more on par with the other Techs and feels similar to the C-Tech I used yesterday.

Thanks! I have several Techs, but this is the only ball end. I picked it up for the etched cap, but I do like that fullered contract style handle. I guess it’s not all original as I’ve never seen another etched cap on that handle, but I’m no expert.

I used a WW2 Tech today. I could tell right away there was definitely more blade contact with this one, so a light touch was the rule to avoid after burn.

It gave a socially acceptable combat zone shave on my sensitive skin.
