Notes:

Looking at my stats this razor hasn’t seen much airtime yet and undeservingly so. It’s phenomenal! Again a fantastic shave with the Souplex.

Enjoy your shave today!

Had my maiden voyage with a new to me Souplex (open comb, hollow handle) this morning which yielded a very close shave. It wasn't particularly comfortable but to be fair this was my 24th use of this blade...

I will log more shaves with this razor and figure out what angle works best and how to mitigate it's toothy feel.

I'll add some proper pics too 👍

You might want to try riding the cap more @Trollky - I shaved with a used Tiger blade yesterday and found the tugginess to decrease significantly when I increased my angle to more shallow. It feels smoother than an Old Type at least.

Very nicely conditioned razor! Great find!

Enjoy!

Guido
Thanks Guido 👍 Enjoy it I shall and I'm sure I'll gel with it after a few shaves.

It was a lucky find as it is indeed in very good condition 🙂

I shaved a fortune
Very nice find, indeed. I prefer your little Bakelite case to the leather zippered travel kit included with mine. I am a sucker for Bakelite cases.... but when I looked for them, sans razor... with shipping, they are over $50 when they do show up occasionally. I ended up using some extra large bar soap containers for my Vintage razors that didn't come with a case.

I, Me, and Myself agree with that, they are so so similar that one or 3 of me has had that opinion too.
But I looked it up and it gets a "(Souplex?)" .... not many non Bwits care to get it totally right in the archival footage :crying:
Shocking stuff @Wombat ESQ !

But it gets worser! Souplex made Big Ben AND the Paragon brand too.

To be pedantic .... I fink the wiki needs some correction? See I have 9 out of 10 Nymphs that Souplex made, and yes even I was under the impression Souplex abandoned razors round 1960 +/- in favour of bakelite/plastic kitchen utensils, the last of the Nymphs are "Allegedly" experiments in colour mixing gone wrong? BUT I have Nymph blades with bar codes on them, which will date them to ~82?

2nd shave with my new Souplex.

Threw in a fresh blade and adjusted the shaving angle (more cap, less baseplate). This made for a smoother shave than yesterday. It's still a pretty blade-feely razor though.

Yes! Broke out the Souplex Combless again for 7 O'Clock week.

I've always found something a bit troubling about this razor and couldn't help being a bit disappointed by it. Upon really close inspection last night - in anticipation of today's shave - I noticed that there was perceptible burring on a couple of the inside corners of the cap, which seemed to be causing some of the alignment problems that been bothering me.

This a problem I also had with an old 1907 single ring, possibly caused by being dropped at some point. I'd removed the burring on the single ring with great results for its performance, so I reached for my trusty file and went to it. About 30 seconds work.

And the visual result was instant. On fitting a blade all of the previous alignment problems seemed to magically disappear and I couldn't wait to try it this morning. It didn't disappoint!

An absolutely outstanding shave, with far more efficiency - almost a touch of aggressiveness - than I could ever get previously, but wonderfully smooth and consistent and with both sides performing equally well. Just a very, very enjoyable shave. Hallelujah! I have reached the Promised Land.

Getting towards the end of OCtober I had to make sure that I used one of Morecambe's finest. I think sometimes I forget just how good this razor is.

I paired it today with a Derby Premium - a blade that I've only started using quite recently - and I'm really starting to be quite impressed by them. I think that I might just have got the best shave that I ever have with this particular razor today.

Uncompromisingly close but satisfyingly smooth.
