I just got notification from the USPS that my brass Overlander should be delivered by the end of this coming week. I ordered it on April 16th, so I guess delivery is about what I expected. I'm excited to give it a try with a Personna Lab Blue. I'll keep you posted...⏳

Yesterday shave💈
The Bison handle reignites the Overlander, makes it nimble and the weight distribution is more balanced than the knopf pommel.
Smooth ride with Permasharp(2)

The Zenith 505B SE is a mystery to me. It behaves like a paintbrush, wet and sloppy without lathergenerating abilities.
Performance was so bad I switched to the Yaqi Sangrada/Proraso Blue midshave.

It lost like twenty bristles during the initial soaking and about five in the four shaves its been put to use. Yet to show any form of splay.

Zeniths are regarded as top of the line boars, maybe I got a defective, probably should post this in the brush forum. Plan is to keep soaking it until some splay is formed and it releases lather instead of hogging it🤷‍♂️

Karve OL Aluminum with a Dorco Prime (2) blade. The brush is a cheap Dscosmetic Galaxy that is a lot prettier than it has any right to be. I've been using Stirling Sheep pretty much exclusively these days, as well as their Glacier PSB. I finish it all of with some PAA Star Jelly.

Really, the only change from shave to shave is the brush... But everyday is a wonderful shave, so I can't complain. 👍

May 24, 2024 Friday shave

Razor: Karve Overlander, brass
Blade: Personna Lab Blue (1)
Soap: Barrister and Mann Diamond
Brush: @Rudy Vey re-knotted Paladin w/Muhle STF (1)
Bowl: Captain's Choice Heavyweight copper
Post shave: Omega alum block, Thayer's Witch Hazel
Aftershave: Pinaud Clubman

Today's shave was highlighted by the brush, re-knotted by Rudy Vey. It was my first experience with the Muhle STF knot. I can see why they are so popular.

The shave was excellent. The Overlander was predictably perfect with the Lab Blue blade, a wonderful combination. The brass Overlander is a big favorite of mine, always a fabulous shave!

10/10

Enjoy your day!

Had a pinnacle shave today, one I can only hope to equal.

Stars were Personna "Lab Blue" (2) and the Karve Goatlander (brass). Co-stars were Grooming Dept pre-shave (Rainforest), Muhle STF, marble bowl and Grooming Dept Earl Grey Gelato (Mallard).

I'll attribute this extraordinary two-pass BBS+ (zero blood and not even the slightest irritation) to that last experimental tiny tilt of the razor head even more into the cap, bordering on excessive tilt. Never before had this razor this shallow. I've used all these ingredients together before to lesser results.

Technique may trump tools, but today these tools excelled!

That's the adjustment I make at times. The razor becomes even more smooth and loses whatever it had of blade feel ... yet it becomes surprisingly more efficient. It's weird and marvelous.

Edit to add: I don't think it's a shallow angle but a reasserting of the neutral angle.

Karve Overlander Al w/Project X Handle | Dorco Titan | Stirling Synthetic Pro-Handle 26mm | Moon Soaps Warmest Regards | Moon Soaps Warmest Regards Splash

I've had a few shaves with the Titan in my aluminum Overlander. The first shave was the least smooth. But since then the blade mellowed out and has been delivering very comfortable shaves.

May 26, 2024 Sunday shave

Razor: Karve Overlander, brass
Blade: Personna Lab Blue (2)
Soap: Barrister and Mann Le Grand Chypre
Brush: Paladin Tut STF (2)
Bowl: Captain's Choice Heavyweight copper
Post shave: Barbero alum block, Thayer's Witch Hazel
Aftershave: Aqua Velva Ice Blue

It was a three pass shave of two days growth. Using the best of the best, all the players in the shave were terrific, yeilding a perfect shave. No weepers, etc. and no irritation. The Tut/STF brush is a wonderful brush, one I truly enjoy using. Along with the Overlander, this was a total satisfaction shave!

Have a great weekend!

Travel shave! I used an old Roger & Gallet soap that I gave my mother for Christmas as pre-shave and it's one of the slickest things I've used. I've taken a hard look at my hardware and sold some great razors recently, but the Overlander? I've just placed an order for some handles and stands, a Bison and another Overlander (my third). It is undeniably awesome.
