Post World's Most Traveled Razor

Chronicles of a Traveling Straight Razor

Well, the journey begins. This will be the thread for all of the participants in the tour to chronicle their experience with the World's Most Traveled Razor. As a couple of you may have noticed on another thread, I came up with an idea to let some of the B&B membership have an opportunity to shave with one of my custom razors rather than just put some nice scales on it and sell it. Before you question why, let's just say that I am hoping to get more out of observing this adventure than I would by just putting some extra money in the bank. I guess you could say I'd be getting paid in a different way if this all works out.

The idea was spawned from knowing that everyone in B&B reader-land cannot necessarily afford to purchase one of my razors or get your hands on one anytime soon. Others of you might be able to afford one, but may want to just see what the fuss is all about. You also get to act famous by scratching your initials in the scales.

While my razors are expensive, they don't necessarily shave better than a good quality vintage razor. However, it doesn't change the fact that there are not a whole lot of my custom razors around and guys being guys, we all have a tendency to like things that are scarce or one of a kind or have a bit of quality to them. My razors fit in there somewhere.

I sent the razor off to the first person on the list and Ben should have it about mid-week (May 10 - 16) Here's hoping for an enjoyable adventure for all of you...

I'm excited to see what pictures people come up with on this tour. It should make for an interesting journey .

Every one of your razors looks like it could kill a man if he looked at it wrong. I like that .

Thumbs up

Incredibly awesome... for those of you who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Bill, he's just about the nicest SOB you'd ever meet.

The time, effort, and money he has into this project is probably quite high and for him to do this to merely help out his fellow forum buddies speaks worlds of Bill's character.

If you're eligible, and you're not jumping on this - you're a plumb fool. Just having the pleasure of seeing/enjoying his incredible work and tireless attention to detail is a treat in and of itself.

I really hope this is still happening when I finally become experienced enough to use it.

Things such as this really say something about the people we have here on the forum, because not only is it a reflection of Bill, but of everyone else since he is trusting these people with his work to be honest and fair.

This is going to be the first thread I ever subscribe to

Thanks Bill for having this idea to begin with and for then following through and making it a reality. I think all of us are in for some fun as we watch this travel the globe from one B&B home to another. This is history and legend in the making and will draw some of us closer together through a common shared experience.

Now the waiting begins...

I'm not quite sure how you missed that part either, since I provided the link in the very first post to get more info...

I'm going to help a bit here and provide two links that will tell everyone who missed it all they need to know.

For scratching the initials into the scales, I'm repeating part of what I said in post #72 of the original thread. Here it is...

Quote:
If your vision is going south like mine, use one of those magnifying visors to do the work. Or just hold a 3-inch magnifying glass with one hand and scratch with the other. Otherwise, for you guys with good vision...

Lightly draw your initials in any one of the squares with a sharp pencil. Then use the awl to trace over what you drew with the pencil. Do it in stages, going over your initials over and over again until it looks good to you. I may put my initials in with the same tool to give you something to go by. It won't have to be very deep.

In the meantime, practice with something that has a very sharp point on an old set of scales you have lying around...

I've been following this forum for a while now since seeing some of Mantic's videos on youtube. This is my first actual post. It seems like there are a lot of informative, helpful people on this site who are very interested with the whole art of Wetshaving. I think it's great. I am also very interested by this thread. Very cool idea Bill, you seem like one hell of a nice guy doing this. Quite creative idea too. Hope all goes well. I will stay tuned and see.

As a newb, this is why I love B&B. You don't see this sort of cameraderie very often. Very cool, Bill!
