Default Taylor of Old Bond Street-St.James Collection

This cologne seems to be decently priced and the brand seems awesome. How is it?

How longs should a 100 ml bottle last?

Or is something contemporary like Polo Double Black a better choice?

Don't know about the cologne but the shave cream is excellent! I may have to try this!

St. James is firmly in the "aquatic" family, and is the only aquatic that I own (collection of over 40).

If that hasn't said enough, I do like it. Longevity is not great, but this may (or may not; I don't like most of the aquatics) be the case with all aquatics. It's a nice, fresh scent, not overly salty or otherwise too-oceanic as these tend to be, IMO.

I hope this isn't tacky, and "please to reprimand me", mods, if it is, but as it happens, I have a brand new, in the box, still-shrink-wrapped bottle of St. James that I tried to unload in the B/S/T a little while ago, unsuccessfully. It's a second bottle that I bought, because I'd forgotten I'd previously bought a bottle (yes, I have too many fragrances, obviously), and I really don't need a backup bottle; with so many in my rotation the one I have will last several years.

As to how long the bottle will last YOU, I wouldn't want to speculate much; it depends on how often you wore it, really. It comes as a splash, and I imagine it could last quite some time that way, but I find atomizing really does wonders for this scent in terms of longevity (for me, anyway), but probably consumes the juice a bit more quickly.

Back to the bottle I had (have) for sale, I got mine at shoplondons.com, as well. Unless you spend $100 or more, shipping is at least $5.95; you could have my bottle for (new, mind you) for... let's call it $8 LESS than whatever shoplondons has it for, plus $4 shipping; should be at least $10 less, and I'll throw in a small vial of the matching aftershave (which is another $37 a bottle, I think). It's real-man, burn-the-crap-out-of-your-face and put-hair-where-it-wasn't-before aftershave.

As I mentioned, I listed this for sale once before; if you can track down the thread where it's listed, and the price there is lower (and it might be), I'll match whatever I had it listed for then (I have limited time right now (stupid nature), and trying to find an old post of mine - however easy it might end up being - is too much for now).

EDIT: As to what else might be well-suited to you, that's pretty personal, really; we'd need to know a fair bit about you, not the least of which would be age, manner of dress, general demeanor, and the setting in which you intended to wear it. I don't have any experience with any Polo colognes.

St. James (or other aquatics) seems a good choice for you, quite frankly, as would citrus scents (I like "Beyond Paradise", "Eau de Guerlain", "Bios de Cedrat", "Cuir de Russie" (which we're trying to get a large split going on (more precisely, we're waiting for more to be made)), and "Fahrenheit Summer"; there are a lots of others: it's a crowded field.

For cooler weather, you might pull off (depending on demeanor/dress/setting (work? school? cubicle farm?)) the leather/spicy scents; some find these "old man", but I think they definitely have a place with certain of the young crowd. EDIT: Sorry, you answered this one. For school, I'd probably stay away from these heavier scents, unless you don't mind people mistaking you for faculty...

I suspect any of the CKs or Polo fragrances should be a good match.

Some "barbershop style" scents might work: "Grafton (T&H)" is a fave; also from TOBS, "Shave Shop" is pretty nice, as is "Mr. Taylor".

I'd recommend (if you've not already) getting the $6 sampler pack from GFT, and write T&H for free samples (pretty sure they do 'em), and see what you like there.

Aquatics and St. james are okay for college right? I don't want to smell like an old man or anything.

I supose you meant the leather/spicy scents wouldn't work for this setting right?

Yes, you are right. Heavy leaather/spicy can be "old man"; aquatics and citrus of for youth (though I'm a relative youngin who shies away from them in general). If you wear corduroy sport coats (or tweed; your basic English Prof look), though, the leather/spice thing can be right on.

I most like a nice pair of jeans, polo shirts and nikes.

Although I do like arygle sweaters, chinos and boat shoes. But that's considered to be trendy and young unlike courdroy.

I think I'm going to get the originial 74, st james or lime 74. Leaning toward the lime 74 right now.

I love those three !!!!
The West Indian Lime and Trafalgar are fine too ...

In fact, I love all the colognes that T&H sent to me as sample ...
But if I had to choose one, this would definitively be the Freshman

Basenotes is good for descriptions of colognes that can help you to decide if something is right for you or not - although I find that the feedback on B&B reflects the way I respond to a cologne rather better. And there's nothing better than trying a sample before you buy.

The No.74 colognes are Taylors not Truefitt & Hill, I think - and the feedback they get is perhaps just a bit love them or hate them to be a safe choice maybe.
