Default Honemeisters? Here's a list ...

Edit: guys, I'll be away from my computer/internet all of August, so if you have any requests to make for changes or additions, please PM a different Mod during that time. Thanks, Ian/Doc4

Folks, from time to time I see threads asking for honemeister services. But there's no one central location for all the information about who the 'honemeisters' are (I'll call them "HMs" for short), where they are located, or what their fees are. So ... here we go.

The regular visitors to this list will probably notice some significant changes of late. Gone are the different categories of HMs; instead, everyone is just listed, be it a big business like Classicshaving that hires HMs, some guy with a few hones and some spare time, or anything in between.

Honemeisters
The Well Shaved Gentleman (Chris Ellison) http://shop.thewellshavedgentleman.c...&productId=148

Classicshaving http://www.classicshaving.com/page/page/578215.htm

Steve Dempster (UK) http://www.razorsharpening.co.uk

Ken Rup, Texas http://ruprazor.com/store/index.php?...d=12&Itemid=36

RasurPur, Germany, http://www.rasurpur.de/english/shop/shop.html

Timmothy Edwards (UK) http://www.timothyedwards.co.uk/Cate...72-75-109-209/

The Vintage Scent (Portugal) http://vintagescent.com/honing-servi...ng-service-p-7

Daniel Gauthier, Montreal, Quebec, Canada ("floppyshoes") ... see post below ... $15 plus return shipping per blade, volume discounts applicable to lots of 5 or more blades ... see: http://floppyshoes.aceboard.com/3195...ons-Honing.htm

Glen M. "gssixgun", N. Idaho, USA, e-mail is gssixgun on aol.com ( you know how to really address that) Rates: Standard Hone Work is $15 plus $5 return shipping (Tracked and Insured) ... CONUS unless we talk first...

Sham "chess1", Missouri, USA, $20.00 per WESTERN blade ( Personal check, pay pal or money order).
$25.00 For Japanese blades. $5.00 s/h up to 3 razors. includes tracking number

Matt (sapito318) Email: sapito318 (@) Gmail (dot) com ... see post 36 (below) for pricing details.

"Ray-man" B&B member. Honing services $15 for first blade, $10 for each additional. Return shipping (conus) included. International return S&H to be paid extra. Contact me http://www.straightrazorsharp.com/

Stephan "mainaman" B&B member ... see post #40 below for details ... $13/blade

Vintageblades (Lynn Abrams) http://www.vintagebladesllc.com/vsho...me.php?cat=187 ($20 + $5.45 return shipping)

ShavingShop (unspecified) http://www.shavingshop.com/index.php...6category%3D82 $15 +return shipping

straightrazordesigns (Lynn Abrams or Don Addleman) http://www.straightrazordesigns.com/...products_id=30 ($20 + return shipping)

Howard Schechter, hschechter @ theperfectedge.com; www.theperfectedge.com $18 to hone a blade and $5 return shipping in the U.S.

Gentlemen's Best http://gentlemensbest.com/RazorHoningService.aspx ($21 includes Priority USPS return shipping)

This list is, obviously, incomplete. It will be, as well, a fluid collection of info as old HMs retire and new HMs join the scene. I invite HMs to post below all the necessary information, which I will edit into this post. Please post again if any of your information changes (rates, address, whatever) and I will re-edit.

Members, please feel free to encourage your HM to contact me if you know of a HM that you can recommend ... I considered posting HM contact information on a Member's recommendation, but decided against it as I don't want to post someone's address or e-mail without their permission. Of course, if your HM has his own website, post or PM the link!

Legal: Nothing in this post or this thread can be taken as any sort of endorsement by B&B (or by me or any of the Mods) of the services mentioned. This is simply a collection point for information, not an assessment of the services offered. While I will try to keep the information here relatively current, we do not guarantee the accuracy of the information provided, and it is your obligation to contact the HM in question to finalise any honing service.

World-wide: B&B has a very ecclectic, international membership from all corners of the Globe. Please provide information on what parts of the globe you are willing to ship to, and the prices for that. Members are encouraged to check with any prospective HM to see if he will actually mail honed razors to your location before sending off the razor in the mail!!

Real Names: I prefer to list HMs by their real names, addresses and e-mails. I will not be listing internet forum pseudonyms or suggestions that members "just PM so-and-so". I want this to be as transparent and factual as possible, so that our members can get the full information without further work, and the HMs are not 'hiding' behind a pseudonym. (E-mail addresses will be listed in such a way that you cannot simply click on the address to e-mail, to attempt to hinder spam and such. An example would be ... cookiemonster "at" sesame_street dot com.) As some people wish to minimise the amount of their personal info on the internet, I will allow a reduced disclosure of contact information for B&B members in good standing.

Actual Prices: I will be listing HMs who provide, here on on a linked website, their rates for honing and shipping. I will not be listing HMs who simply request a PM or e-mail to discuss rates; we'll be able to do our comparison shopping right here!

No discussion of honing quality. This thread is merely to provide the information to reach the HMs. Any discussion in this thread about a HM's skills (good, bad or indifferent) will be deleted as soon as possible. If you want to have that discussion, start or join some other thread about that (within the bounds of gentlemanly discussion and the other Terms Of Use that apply to B&B.) Maybe these guys do a good job, maybe not so much. As one B&B wit once remarked, a "honemiester" can be defined as "a guy with a hone and an ego". I guess the point is, this is just a list of guys who call themselves HMs, so take it with a grain of salt.

This is a good idea, though I am reluctant to post my rates in a public. I do have a hone, and an ego... but I like to think I keep both in check.

My info:

Real Name: Daniel Gauthier
Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
email: covertoperations00@hotmail.com
Honing Rate: $12 plus return shipping per blade, volume discounts applicable to lots of 5 or more blades.

Info: I can repair and/or hone razors of all types, sizes and grinds. I also offer a variety of finishing methods and fast turnaround. International customers are welcome. Restoration services including custom scales, blade polishing, shaping and repinning also available. Please PM or email me for specifics, I have a very detailed and long-winded summary which I normally send out to interested parties. References readily available for both my honing and restoration work.

Doc4,
there is something wrong with your links.
VB is supposed to short the tags of you hyperlinks, not the addresses themselves

Hi - just thought I'd post this as suggested by a member. I don't particularly like the word 'honemeister' so I'll just say that I sharpen razors. Anyway, details as follows:

Name: Steve Dempster
Location: UK
relevant site: http://www.razorsharpening.co.uk
email:enquiries@razorsharpening.co.uk
All rates are posted on the site, no hidden 'extras' - what you see is what you pay. The site is fully e-commerce equipped and all payments are via PayPal. Due to customs restrictions (i.e. having to pay duty to 'import' a razor that has a declared value greater than £18 - and this works both ways) my services are to UK and EC countries only. Services are all described on the website but briefly are cleaning, polishing and honing, also re-pinning though I do not offer a custom scale service. Thanks!

Default Honing Avaiable

I might as well throw my name in here as well....

Glen M.
PM's go to my e-mail anyway but it is gssixgun on aol.com ( you know how to really address that)
I only take on work, if I can complete it in a timely professional manner, if I am swamped, I will tell ya...

Location: Nth Idaho

Rates: Standard Hone Work is $15 plus $5 return shipping (Tracked and Insured) if I can't insure it, that worries me...so CONUS unless we talk first...
I return the razor "ready to shave", including complete polishing, and stropping.... (I want that 1st shave to be a benchmark for you, of my edges)

I do Complete Restorations, and Damage Repair also, I can normally estimate that with a pic sent to my e-mail.......

I wanted to add my name to the list.

No fee for honing. You pay shipping back and forth. CONUS only.

I live in Austin, Texas for those in the Central Texas area but I don't restrict to just Texas. If you are going to be in the area let me know and I can hone while you wait or run your errands. Maybe even get a small honing lesson, free of course. If you are interested let me know when you plan to mail razor as I like to be home when the mail delivery person comes to the house.

PM if interested. Thanks.

Raf

I am the guy that made these videos (as well as some other written tutorials): http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=47303

I live in Los Angeles (Southern Culver City specifically) and would be willing to hone a razor and/or give some lessons to beginners that have a strong enough interest in the hobby to come to my house at a time that works for both of us. A while ago I was swamped with honing jobs at $20 plus return shipping (all my customers really liked my edges) but I don't have time to do any honing with shipping since I am studying 30+ hours a week for the CPA's, working full time, and trying to spend what little remaining time that I do have with my girlfriend (as opposed to honing, packaging, and standing in line at the post office).

As of today I am no longer accepting honing jobs due to a very heavy work schedule. I anticipate this to last through March. Once this period is over I will post again to advise I am back. To those that have been waiting, my most sincere apologies for the delay in returning blades and I appreciate your patience.

I will be moving on April 1st. Due to packing/unpacking and settling, my honing service will be suspended until May. I will post again here when I'm back in business.

Thanks to all of my customers, past, present and future.

I can, but I'm not honing right now due to packing/unpacking from the move.
I'm actually set up to be able to use nothing but Japanese naturals and traditional techniques if the customer requests it. Otherwise I use man made stones and pastes. I'll be back in business in a few weeks.
