Default Aqua Velva Lime

Is this a discontinued item? Or still available to in certain areas?

Sadly, I think it is part of shaving history only. The parent company, Combe Inc., lists only four Aqua Velva products: Classic Ice Blue, Ice Sport, Musk and Ice Balm. It doesn't mention a lime at all.

All I can say is blast and darn, or words to that effect. I think a lime AV aftershave would be wonderful. I'd buy it. Where I'd put it is another issue.

This stuff (AV Lime) and other vintage aftershaves turn up on Ebay every now and then. There is an auction for the Lime going on right now. The asking price was a little too rich for my blood but if you are looking for something like this that isn't made anymore it may be worth it to you. Good luck.

Note I can't post a link to a live auction but it should be pretty easy to find.

I'd love to be able to find some. I believe Churchill, a man I am extremely envious of, uses it so hopefully he'll see this thread and chime in

The question is : is that kind of AV will still smell the same after all those years? It will be great to buy some on ebay but a bit risky.

I read AV used to put out another scent too that was good. I believe it was called Rosewood or something like that.

I would also be concerned with its potency with age.

It's a shame the stuff isn't still made though.

There is a version of AV available in Canada called something like "Original Sport." The rumor is that this particular version is citrusy. Somebody in Canada should do a group buy of this for their friendly neighbors to the south!

Great! I just did a trade with a member of SMF; I will let you know about AV original sport.

Let us know how 'citrusy' it is. If it is citrusy, we may just have to rustle up some canadian members to buy a box of the stuff.

I think it would be great if, at least for a limited time, they brought out an 'Aqua Velva Classics' collection. They could re-intoduce the pre-Ice Blue Aqua Velva from 1919, along with any of the spin offs that they did through the years. Then, if any got a really great response from the public, they could bring them back permanently.

Would you be up for trying these?

I sure would. I find myself really enjoying these "vintage" products. I regret that I missed out on them over the years.

My first after-shave was Old Spice Lime. I remember it as being really good stuff. Of course that was thirty years ago.

I'd be interested. AV blue is good feeling stuff, and the kicker is, people seem to like it, which is kinda funny, because it is dirt cheap.

In my Ice Blue Aqua Velva Frost Lime Aftershave, there is:
  • SD Alcohol 38-B
  • Water
  • Glycerin
  • Fragrance
  • Menthol
  • Benzophenone-1
  • D&C Yellow No. 10
  • D&C Orange No. 4
  • D&C Green No. 5
I got it for Christmas in a four-pack set with Musk, Menthol Mist, and regular Ice Blue.

Aqua Velva Original Sport is indeed "citrusy"; very fresh and nice. Check out this thread and review for a little more info.:

http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...original+sport

http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...?ltr=A&t=23654

I have done some thinking about how to ship a box to a member in the U.S. for distribution, but between prohibited shipping of products with alcohol in the mail, and the higher shipping cost and brokerage fees of UPS, I don't think it would be economically viable for the purchasers. A 200mL bottle for $4.17 at Wal-Mart would cost MUCH more after shipping down plus shipping to each person.

I don't travel to the U.S. very often, and don't have anything slated yet for '08, but if I do I could try to bring a small number of bottles down and get to a B&Ber for distribution. Perhaps there's another Canadian member who travels more often, or is by the border, and could do this. I know this product isn't high end, but perhaps it's something the B&B Decant Club could look at bringing in (say a couple of bottles) for people to try.

If there would be a cheaper way of shipping down that anyone knows of (I don't know all the methods or ins-and-outs) I'd be happy to look at doing the leg work up here for shipping (funds would have to be drawn together as well to make the purchase and ship).

To be honest, I haven't used either yet. I forgot about them in the back of the closet. I'll use one of them after next shave and let you know.

Default Aqua Velva

I wonder if they could be purchased at a duty free shop at the border? I live about an hour away closest to Kingston.

The Original Sport, I don't know. I'd go with no for the Menthol Mist and Lime. They're vintage from eBay. I typed about them here when I got them. I'm excited to use them now that I remembered them!
