Hair Tonic Sample Ordering!

Given the low level of enthusiasm for the original Tonic Sampler, we've decided change the rules and to offer 1 oz. hair tonics samples À la carte. Read this carefully if you intend on taking part!

Before anything else, please catch up by reading this thread.

The final products included in the list will be:
  • Pashana Blue Orchid
  • Pashana Bay Rum
  • Pashana E.d. Portugal
  • Pashana E.d. Cologne
  • Pashana Brilliantine
  • Pashana Hair Lotion
  • Pinaud E. d.Quinine
  • Lucky Tiger Three Purpose
  • Jeris w/o oil
  • Booster's Sage
  • Pinaud Clubman Greaseless

Here's how to take part
  1. Go to this site: (https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B4trRmiPNqSENTI5NTcwYWMtN2RjYi00NWYyLThjMTEtNzMxZmY0Y2UzNmM2&hl=en) and download the Excel file.
  2. Enter the number of Samples for each item that you'd like in the yellow boxes
  3. Email the finalized .xls file to me at [email protected] (yes it's spelled wrong) with your screen-name in the file-name (eg OrderForm_yourname.xls), and your screen name and real name at the bottom of the spreadsheet.
  4. You will pay the total cost of your items up front to me via paypal based on revised ordering numbers (see below)
  5. Items will be shipped when I receive everything.
    That's it.

Rules
  • Expect some items to be knocked off the list! It'll most likely happen.
  • ConUS only. Sorry, but no I can't change that.
  • Payments via Paypal only.
  • Shipping is one standard rate ($5.20), but all items must fit a small Flat-Rate box
  • Some costs (ie empty bottles) have been estimated, but if I have gone over cost I'll donate the proceeds to B&B.
  • If I don't get enough orders for a particular item it will be removed from all final orders.
  • If I don't get enough orders to reach our goals for shipping costs the entire experiment will be canceled.
  • An initial order is a promise to stick with the program even if some of your items get canceled from the list. This is to prevent a snowball effect of cancellations. Special circumstances will, of course, be taken into account, but if you're fickle don't take part.
Just a clarification on the above: I do under stand that nobody wants to take part if they have to pay more for shipping than the items they are getting. If, say, all but two of your items weren't available I would not expect your continued commitment. The concern really lies in people dropping large orders because their #1 pick got dropped, or something similar.
  • The ordering window will close in 1 week (ie February 15 at 11:59)
  • Rules may be changed as needed.
  • This is limited to 16 people, as it is much more involved on my part than the identical samplers. People from the following list have priority because they tossed their hats in early.
Bill8067
Vlad
DanParker77
Tvldatsi
PozzSka
ItsMrBrooks
Levertime
Wendy

Phog Allen

What size are the samples? Seems this worked out to be cheaper than the original plan. You can get one of each shipped for less than $20.

Looks like one ounce samples. Sorry, I had to delete my original post after you edited your post. Cheaper than originally planned was my thoughts also.

What size are the samples? Shipping costs really seem to kill the thrill of the deal.

The samples are 1 fluid ounce, which is plenty for a few uses. Shipping cost does hinder smaller orders, but it is simply the easiest way to do this. These items are being offered at cost however, and all of the Pashana product will be shipping for free to my place so you won't be double charged there.

In order to more thoroughly address this concern for everybody involved, I'll say that the alternative is to get your order, buy boxes and packing materiel, pack the items, take them somewhere to be weighed like the PO (or buy a letter scale), bring them home, calculate the costs, send you an invoice for the final cost, wait for payment and then ship it. It's a lot more time and effort, and I'm not convinced that shipping will be that much (if at all) cheaper.

Just to give you an idea of costs, if one were to order all 11 items the final cost would be $23.39 which is $2.12 each with shipping included.

Can you tell me how you got this? After plugging in "1" to each item in the spreadsheet I get the $23.39, I'm wondering if you forgot to add the cost of the bottles.

I don't even know how this is different than the first thing, but I sent my order form, so at some point I'm getting a box of stuff, right? That works for me. :thumbup1:

Thank you for the hard work you've put into this and seeing it through. I'll be sending my order sometime today.

LMF, you should have my order! Thanks for putting this together. Hopefully we can achieve lift off by doing the "A La Carte"!

If you add all these up;
$1.24
$1.24
$1.24
$1.24
$1.24
$1.24
$0.78
$0.87
$0.46
$1.05
$1.16
you get 11.76, yes? Or am I missing something?

Add the $5.65 and it's less than $20. I added it up several times but could be wrong.

Plug the number of samples you'd like into the yellow spreadsheet column. It should auto update the prices with the cost of bottles, shipping, and paypal fees tacked on. 11 empty bottles are $5.50 @ 50 cents each, and shipping is $5.20, then add the cost of the liquid.

One should expect this setup to cost more for two reasons. The original Buy/Split only included 9 items where this one has 11, and I had exact prices for empty bottles which are dependent on how many I order, so 50 cents per bottle is a best guess until I get everybody's orders.

NOTICE:
Thanks to a vigilant member, we were able to save some dough on a couple of items and bring the price down a bit. The savings was about $15 overall which translates to ~$1.15 per order (that's like getting a whole sample for free!). I've updated the Order Form link, but for those of you who have already sent one in, don't worry, I'll take care of you.

Still looking for fresh faces (scalps?) to join the sampler split! Spread the word. Tell your neighbors, dip into the kids' college fund, explain to the wife that you can't live without it. So far we only have 5 orders posted. Assuming one item gets dropped (I'm guessing the Brilliantine), all orders should come in around or under $21 dollars, which is easily manageable for most of us. I'm going to do my best to also make sure most items don't get dropped, even if that means keeping some extra around the house until I can sell them or use them. Remember I want you to try as many as possible, and to have a good time with this.

This should be fun. Try them as hair tonics, try them as aftershaves; if you don't like something, PIF it or toss it in with one of your BST sales. This is a great chance to experience a plethora of scents and varieties.

Lastly, Wendy, one of the godmothers of B&B, has offered to pick up some slack and order some items if we can't quite make the mark. If nothing else, do it for Wendy!

Or use them as mouthwash! Twenty bucks for a dozen flavors? Come on, people!

I didn't see the part about purchasing empty bottles. I apologize. I find the entire ordering process confusing as hell. I don't have Excel, just can view the doc. I have an easier time just telling the person what I want and have them tell me how much to pay them. That's just me whining though. Maybe I could become more Excel savvy?

Set him up with one of everything. :thumbup1:
