What's new

Cheap....but good !!

ran into a site called cosmeticbag.com a few weeks ago....they have a large selection of products from russia....i placed an order and received it ,well packed,in a week.....site is located in the USA........these aftershaves all run about 87-89 % alcohol ,and in my opinion are made using true perfumers alcohol, not isopropyl.... 3 to 4 oz bottles average $3.00 and they come in old fashioned thick glass bottles....most all the 6 scents i chose have an old time barbershop scent to them, and they all have a very very clean scent.....in the first photo, left to right #1 is tabak,,,nice tobacco scent,a little wood and aged leather.....#2 arbat....very clean citrus with bergamot, cedar, vanilla, vetiver and a light powdery finish...#3 don juan...amber,citrus,like vintage barbershop clean crisp aroma, this one is my favorite....photo #2...left to right...#1 fatherland..in a thick red glass bottle !very light scent of berg,citrus,amber,lily,rose,sandal...floral.....#2... tet-a-tet...very spicy, green herbal and wood notes.....#3....flight ...this is really a sophisticated lilac vegetal without the sour note after...the lilac combined with citrus is really refreshing, and very light and clean...dirt cheap nick sealers!!! a real bargain, shipping charge is modest

Nice! One looks like it spells Tabak,,,,, is it close to what Tabac smaells like, or Maybe Alt Innsbruck?

Thanks,

Moe

HECK YEAH! I'm all about the budget stuff. I have 4 on the way including the green tea one. Heack, they can always be PIF's or gifts to friends that are yet to be wet shave converts. Reviews/comments to come...

Alright, I'm in for a Tabacus, a Fatherland, and a Don Juan. Even if they don't work out, I'll pour them out and use the sweet bottles. Thanks for the tip!

wish I had some alt innsbruck...I may go to hungary this year,I'll look for some, the russian one is more true to a sun dried tobacco smell ,and my tabac shaving cream does resemble this aftershave

Very nice. They have a mens Green Tea scent. I've looked for one before.

Bought 3 Colognes and 4 aftershaves.

hey ian...I've been making my own soap for about 15 years now...I use cold process and my usual formula is coconut oil, olive oil, palm fruit oil, palm kernal oil, coco butter, shea butter and sometimes mango butter, red clay or green clay and castor oil....essential oils for scent...once you bathe in high quality soap you can't go back to the chemicals and tallowate (rendered fat of dead pigs) of supermarket soap...

ibrewbeer let us know what you get and how they work for you. I am actually sorry now I didn't get a few more. I didn't think they would be so nice at 3 bucks a shot....next time I will get the mercury (misspelled on the website) and 3 or 4 others...hell..the glass bottles alone are worth the price !

This is too much fun. $3 and $4 aftershaves, $5 total for shipping. I'm joining this experiment with:

For Men. C1512 After shave splash 1 $3.00
Player. C849 After shave splash 1 $4.00
Tabacus. C1516 After shave splash 1 $4.00
Mercury. C843 After shave splash 1 $4.00
Fatherland. C967 After shave splash 1 $3.00
Subtotal $18.00
Shipping & Handling $4.99
Grand Total $22.99

Thanks! My hopes aren't amazingly high for most of these, but the adventure is worth the price of admission.

I found "for men/dla muzhchin" to be quite nice as is cigare. Others that I've tried of the same origin were very old man / commie smelling to me. YMMV, of course.

Fair warning tho: do not use any of these on freshly shaved skin or you will know what hell fire is like. Also, use sparingly. They are strongly scented and last a good while.

Nice. I've only made one bath soap so far. It was Olive and coconut fats. I've mostly made shaving soaps.

I got Cigar, Golden Galeon, The Verte

And
Pasha, Tabacus, For Men, and Fatherland

I have to wonder the difference between $6 Cigar and $7 Sigar (with the same picture of Cigar and scent description).

Thanks, Rich. All helpful advice! I always start with superhazel post-shave, so the burning effect of most any AS is reduced for me. Still, I shall proceed with caution! I've come to trust your judgement on scents -- if two out of 5 ain't bad, then I'll definitely consider this experiment a success!

And for the others, don't we all have days when we want to smell like an old man/commie?! :biggrin1:

Will do! That'll be the fun of this thread, I think -- comparing notes!

Aw, shucks. You're welcome.

I just couldn't resist buying the "Mercury" and the "Marcury" to see the difference. Same picture, same description... different name and different price.

Tabacus. C1516 After shave splash $4.00
Player. C849 After shave splash $4.00
Marcury. C843 After shave splash $4.00
Tet-a-Tet For Him. C1406 After shave splash $2.00
Tet-a-Tet For Him. C958 After shave splash $5.00
Virage. C1935 Eau de Toilette/Spray $7.00
Mercury. C843 After shave splash $6.00
Fatherland. C967 After shave splash $6.00

And I *love* a good alcohol burn... Pinaud Bay Rum is magical after a close shave... so I'm looking forward to this stash!

Wow, I love that site. Did anyone else love some of the fragrance's names? Teenager... and my favorite WWW aka Site which is
...a modern fragrance for teens, who love surfing the internet. That is why its called WWW (Site).
What does that even mean? That's like naming something Pillow, "for those that like sleeping in beds"

Oh and let us not forget the Kremlin. Man I need a bottle of that just for show.

baloosh....isn't the difference in the size/ounces? they have several misspelled translations..i'm sure it's just a larger size

I'm in - it's Red Dawn baby!

And I'm actually surprised they didn't market one called that.

My cart:

Fatherland. C967 After shave splash

Don Juan. C1511 After shave splash - malocchio's recommendation!

Barber of Siberia #1. C911 Eau de Toilette/Spray - look at the package and the ingredients: rose, strawberry, vanilla, cider and chocolate - Whaaa?!?
If I only use it once, it's going to be a nice display.

Subtotal $22.00
Shipping $4.99
Grand Total $26.99

malocchio didn't steer me wrong on the cheap turkish limon aftershaves.
