Default New member - checking in From the UK...

Hey guys - Ahem, feels a little strange having only one post () having been a member of several watch fora for years, but anyway, I'm just checking in from sunny Manchester in the UK.

Got turned on to proper shaving via a post on a non-shaving related forum about straight shaving, so thought I'd toss the plastic BIC's and shave oil in the garbage and get back to having a proper shave again.

Sadly, I'm not brave enough to go down the straight razor path just yet, so I've been using Wilkinson Sword DE razor, soap and blades for the past month as these are cheap and readily available on any UK high street. Have to say that they give me a pretty close and comfortable shave for not much outlay. The main unexpected benefit though, is just how much shaving is no longer a chore to be despised. Can't be bad!

So, now it's time to up the ante. Just ordered a Merkur 34C HD (thanks to all at B&B for posts and reviews), some Tabac soap (takes me back!) and a pack of Feathers (yes, I know, but blades are supposed to be sharp, right?) so I'll see how I get on.

Looking forward to contributing!

Baz

Welcome aboard. Let me know how you like the Feathers in your HD. I've also got a new HD, but haven't tried Feathers yet.

Welcome. I find I especially like Feathers in my Blue Tip Super Speed. Mild razor + supersharp blade= DFS...

Hi Baz,
I'm from London. Like you I started with the wilkinson set-up. Once I got my futur and decent shave cream (even 45p palmolive shave stick is better than the wilkinson soap for me), it went from ok shave, to fantastic.

Like you, shaving is now enjoyable. Keep us posted once your new gear arrives.

Again, thanks to all for the warm welcome! And from all corners of the globe it seems...

Yes, Ben - it's a bl**dy revelation! Looking forward to trying out the Merkur 34C and finding out if it's as great as you guys say it is...

NatJag - you just beat me with your post... Well, I got all my current Wilkinson gear from one visit to Sainsbury's! So far, I'm finding the soap to be OK, but a bit of work to get a decent lather and it doesn't last for three passes, so have to add more soap/water. We'll see if the Tabac makes me look like Santa Claus in about five seconds. I went with this as it seems to be a favourite around here - AND it reminds me of my yoof (a long time ago)!
