Default Great Googly Moogley! I think I've done it! -or- How I converted my wife.

The idea came to me a few weeks ago after a brief chat with my wife about a thead posted here about SWMBO's feelings about DE shaving. I regaled her with tales of wives who range from unbridaled interest to downright hostility regarding our shaving hobby. She was shocked that there was so much negative reaction from SO's to DE shaving, but not entirely surprised with my interest in it as she was well aware that I was a geek before we got married.

Shortly after our chat my wife's eyes sparkled, and she asked "Do women shave with DE Razors?" "Of course they do", I said. "Not nearly as many women as men I don't think; but they do. Not long ago, it was either DE's or straights, and that was about it." She smiled, and we moved on to other topics of conversation. A day later I secretly had a excellent condition light blue '62 Starburst Lady Gillette headed for the mailbox. This was a risky gambit, however. I decided to give it to her as a Valentines Day present... My fear of course, was that the gift would be accepted in the spirit of a vacuum cleaner, or dishwashing soap, something that she did not like/ want. I'm generally quite good at keeping gifts for my wife a secret, but I was seriously getting nervous that she was going to look at me like I just ran over her dog once she opened her present. This is serious business after all. Valentines Day is just a week away!

Last night- Sunday, I offerred to shave my wife's legs for her. I've never shaved anyone else before, particularly a member of the fairer sex. I figured I'd just shave them legs like they were really big cheeks. The knees like really big chins. This could be a lot of fun, I thought. As Valentine's Day was bearing down on me like a deer in the headlights, the pressure became too great. I decided to hedge my bets, and present my wife her Lady Gillette a week early. Partly to alleviate the stress I was having, but also so I would have a week to buy her 'real' present if the DE was unacceptable.

One thing about my wife that I had figured would be in my favor is that she has an affinity for old stuff. She loves pinup girls from the 20's, Bettie Page, Marilyn Monroe, the 50's, etc. I was thrilled when I presented her with her new razor and a huge grin spread across her face. "It's BEAUTIFUL" she gushed. "I love it!" A wave of relief flooded over me as she confided that she was quite taken with my new hobby, and had considered inquiring about a razor of her own, but didn't want to come off as a copy-cat. "So, are you ready to shave my legs?"

You bet I was! I had already taken my shave for the day, and had plenty in the gas tank for one more. Especially if it is my wife's lovely legs! We drew the bath, and I went to work prepping the shave supplies. A Shark razor in the Lady Gillette, warm AOS Lavender soap deftly lathered into a cushy froth with my Simpson PJ2 two band super, and a grin on my face, I set off to work. The first thing I noticed is that her legs are much longer (and prettier) than my cheeks. It was quite a thrill to behold swaths of stubble being decimated with each careful swipe of the Gillette. William Wallace had nothing on me, I could take out 50 with a single pass of my blade... I was emboldened by my wife's fascination with the whole process. She marveled at how smooth the razor glided over her skin. She said it was a much smoother experience than her usual 5 blade whatchamathingy. I let her take the controls for a few passes after showing her the basics. Before I knew it, we were done! No cuts, no nicks, very good hair reduction. I hate to toot my own horn, but my first time out of the gate, I gave a DFS!
The shave sealed the deal. For better or worse we are joined by love, marraige, and now DE shaving. Luckily I don't have enough supplies for her to start comandeering too much, and hopefully our bank statement can withstand the double AD hit. My wife now has plans to convert her 3 best girlfriends to the practice. This was a good weekend!

Thanks to all and sorry for the book!

It's things like this that make me hope that wetshaving is becoming more mainstream to the point that more and more new and better products will be made available. One can hope.

Perhaps it is time for a women's only section here at B&B . . .

Good work soldier! I bet you are well chuffed.

We will get them all one at a time. Before we know it they will all be at it!

Bought my gf some Trumper's rose soap last week to slowly direct her in the right direction. I thought she'd been using canned shaving goo but I learned that she'd been using body wash!! Some people eh! But at least now she's using proper shaving soap. She loved the smell and later in the day even confessed that her legs felt smoother.

Next step - give her legs the once over with my Merkur HD and see if I get any positive comments about the result.

Stage after that - steal her " LadyGilletteSwordTurboSlicerMach7" and replace it with something more suitable!

Similar to how mine was "converted" (although she's using a Merkur 23C), although what sealed the deal for her was trying the TOBS Lavender that was accidentally sent instead of the Mr Taylors I ordered. Amazon let us keep the Lavender in addition to a full refund no questions asked (their cust service has always been A+ with me)

Anyway- keep in mind TOBS and others make scents like Lavender that your wife may really enjoy. Sounds like yours and mine have similar soft spot for pin-up type styles

You story is similar to my own. My wife was a little more reluctant and only wanted me to shave her at first. One of the things I really love about this hobby is the Solitude and peace I get, but at the same time something my wife and I can enjoy together. We love to go to antique stores together now. Great story!

I let my girlfiend give it a try....she liked it....was a pro on the first try (dang)....she said it was closer than usual and lasted longer than usual.........but she said it take her about two minutes to regularly do her legs, and this took considerably longer and the difference wasn't worth it to her....don't think I'm converting this one.

She just likes playing with the brushes.

Great story J but I'm not sure how chuffed SWMBO would be to read about great swathes of hair and fifty at a stroke etc....

Good job, sounds a LOT like last weekend's snowstorm shenanigans with the wife for me...except my shave had a bubble bath with some special oils, darkness except for some candles around the tub, a leg and foot massage and...

The next day, she made me a pan of sausage lasanga in gratitude for the Super Bowl.

Of course, I used my own razor, a Tech with Personna blade for safety's sake. Not a single nick despite the low light. If I had butchered her legs, I would've really screwed up any chances of converting her.

Bonus for me...wow her legs (and more) were smooth for days. Oops, did I mention the "more"?

Get her some brushless cream like Trader Joe's Mango or something. Tell her to shave as normal in the shower. It will take not nearly as much time and the shave will be just as close. At least this is how my wife works with her DE.

I banked on my wife's innate laziness and gave her a light blue Gillette Lady and access to my blade stash. She basically ignored it until her crusty Mach3 blade had it's 487th and final shave and it was easier to use the DE than go out and buy new cartridges :)

Still can't get her to use any kind of cream, though. I'm pretty sure she still uses either bodywash or shampoo (if anything.)

I like it for the "me" time as well. If all goes well, I can now have "me" time, and "us" time.
