Scuttle experiment? Your post is timely as I just replaced my busted water heater this past weekend. I need to measure it again with the newer heater, but with my old one, I never measured above 120 F. So yours must be cranked up or I've been missing out on some hot water!

Mine is right at 140 F. It is almost too hot to deal with.

As you'd expect - scalding can occur at 54C (129F)

I don't crank up my water heater although a lot of people like to. I can't see spending extra to store hot water when I'm not using that much. Daily shave, shower, and run the dishwasher a few times a week, that's it! Clothes are washed with cold water.

I bet no more than 120 due to small children in the home. We have it turned way down. It has saved a few screaming children.

Too hot to stand. I backed it off to the lowest temperature.

I've always set mine on the conservative side to be green, avoid scalding, and save money. I recently turned it up a bit, which is nicer feeling in the shower, but problematic in the winter for those tending towards dry skin - like me. This thread got me wondering, though, so I pulled out the meat thermometer and measured 112 in the evening... but 129 in the morning after two showers were taken causing the HWH to replenish the supply. I could tell earlier that it varied a fair amount, but 17 degrees seems like too much variance. Can anyone else speak to this?

It should be no higher than 125 to avoid scalding and save energy. Unfortunately I live in a condominium and have no control over the temperature. My water runs around 135.
