I had this one laying around for a couple of months after purchasing it from Cotton Blossom. This morning I decided to use it for the first time. Ultimately I got a decent shave from it. The problem I had with it was the lack of aggressiveness that this razor has to offer. The blade exposure on this one would be like a minus 1 on an adjustable razor. It would be almost impossible to get nicked with it. I would recommend it to a newbie. I like the "fewer passes the better" approach with a razor. It took a more than the usual amount of passes to finally end up with a satisfactory shave.

I can't believe they actually sell a POJ like the weishi. This razor equals -3 on an adjustable. I tried it with a merkur, swedish gillette, derby and crystal. None of them gave me a satisfactory shave after 4 passes. I had to do a lot of buffing and pressure to get a decent shave. I really don't have a coarse beard so it's a real mystery to me that some people actually are satisfied with the weishi. For me it's worthless. I even had the wife try it for shaving her legs and she just gave it back to me as junk and worthless. On top of that the TTO knob takes a hard twist to lock and has a very short turn. The head is nowhere near the quality or build of a Gillette. The handle is the only sturdy piece of the razor. Could have better spend my money on a nice piece of soap or cream.

Being almost a direct copy of the 1960´s Superspeed, people who already did not like the original razor won´t like this either. If you get your best shaves with an adjustable, forget about the Weishi.
I personally think that the 1960´s SS was the best type of non-adjustable razor ever produced, and the Weishi does it justice. So if you want to get a DE without having to use an used razor or without browsing antique stores, the Chinese might supply you with a razor that is just alright for you. |

I'll second the emotions of some of the other commenters above. I find it REALLY difficult to get a good shave with this thing. I'm new to DE shaving; I'm glad some other folks have come to the same opinion. Now I know I'm not crazy!
![]() ...well. At least not when it comes to evaluating this razor. ![]() I did some serious damage to myself yesterday w/this thing. A brand new "Swedish Blue" was in the Weishi. I kept on having to do pass after pass after pass after pass ... and the stubble wasn't going away! And I wasn't doing anything differently from my normal routine (except for WAY more passes)! It's a credit to the sharpness of the Swedes that I had absolutely NO idea I had even cut myself until I took a cursory look in the mirror right before leaving for work. That'll learn me. Next time, I'll use my 38C or my SS. This thing's a POS. |

Before, I think it's a good idea to give my pedigree: Merkur Futur matte satin, Merkur HD, Merkur VISION, E&J (HD head), Merkur Futur chrome, Slant (chrome and gold), abandon DE... come back to DE, bought a Merkur 38C (HD head), sold it, bought slant gold again, find it too aggressive, too much nicks/cuts/razor burn, and, recently, I give a shot to this one.
First, yes, this razor is not aggressive. It is very gentle on your face, you can't nick/cut yourself, if you cut yourself, your technic is bad. Very safe for beginner. I load mine with a feather blade. My technic is buffing technic (after a lot of experimentation technic, this is the one that works for ME), so I only give a one to two passes (clean face removing soap, gently re-apply) when I shave. I'm not the type of guys who do a 3 to 6 pass with my vacuum cleaner on my carpet, so I don't see why I should do the same with my razor on my face. If I need to do a 3 pass and more, there's a problem, and I conclude that the system just don't work. To push this machine, I shave when I had a 2.5 days growing beard. My beard is really tough, my skin really sensitive, the worst combination you can find. I was pretty impress (with a FEATHER blade) how this razor can cut the hair but not give razor burn. The length of the razor is like a HD, but just "little" longer (about 1 cm), the weight is perfect, not too heavy, not to cheap/light. Personnaly, I prefer lighter razor, with heavy razor I lost control. I prefer using my "force" instead of using the weight of the razor to do the job. Same with pencil. I prefer this razor to the HD, why? due to the "round" head edge of these kind of head, it give a more "flexible" angle than the HD head. With the HD head, if you don't has the right angle, you miss it, and it scrape too much of soap (like a squeegee). The feeling of Weishi head on your face is like the futur or VISION head (surely like the Gillette too, but I can't talk about Gillette, I never try them). The head glide very smoothly, I talk about the matte satin finish, for shiny chrome, I can't tell if it give the same smooth glide, usually I find chrome finish little sticky on the face. Overall, I recommend this razor for all of you who are tired about razor burn, tired about nick and cuts, or you are a beginner and want a cool razor with a TTO head type. That can be "the" razor for you, for other, not enough aggressive, etc. like everything, all taste is in nature. Be careful there's a lot of grade/finish of this razor. Here's some photo of mine, I bought mine at "razor and brush" .com (impossible to plug the url, it seems it don't accept it!) ![]() ![]() |

Murph: Tell me a little about this electric piano, Ray.
Ray: Ah you have a good eye my man. That's the best in the city of Chicago. Jake: How much? Ray: Two thousand bucks and it's yours. You can take it home with you. As a matter of fact I'll throw the black keys in for free. Jake: Two thousand for this chunk o'shit? Come on Ray. Murph: I mean really Ray, it's used, there's no action left in this keyboard. Ray: Excuse me, I don't think there's anything wrong with the action on this piano. ![]() The Weishi has gotten alot of bad press in the forums of late. The major complaints being "it takes forever to get a shave" or "its impossible to get a BBS shave" or "Gentle? I cut myself to shreds with it!". Are the digs legitimate? Kinda, sorta ... well, actually ... no. But like dissing the action of Ray Charle's piano, the nature of the complaints stem more from how people use the Weishi rather than the Weishi itself. Price and Quality - B+. The Weishi has a fair bit of weight to it. Its edges are smooth. The finishes are varied (Gold, Gun Metal, Chrome, etc.) and excellent. It comes with a great little plastic travel case, a little brush to clean it, and a 5 pack of Dorco blades. ![]() User Friendly, Grip, Ease of Blade Replacement, Balance - A. Its a classic TTO. Twist the bottom of the handle to open, insert blade, twist to close. The handle is deeply knurled and provides an excellent gripping surface. Its a Gillette Super Speed on steroids. Aggressiveness - The Weishi is as aggressive as a Gillette Super Speed but has a smaller cutting angle - in other words in order for you to cut whiskers, you need to find its sweet spot (i.e. hold it correctly) and once you do, it will shave you as well as any Super Speed. Unfortunately there lies the blessing and the curse of the Weishi. Its cutting angle is small enough that the odds of accidentally cutting yourself with it are small. This is excellent for people just starting out DE shaving as it removes a big fear point from the equation. You have a better chance hurting yourself by dropping it on your foot than shaving with it. The curse is that till you find the Weishi's sweet spot and consistently apply it to your shave, shaving will take longer. If you're technique is really sloppy, getting a decent shave with a Weishi will take you forever. To go back to Ray Charles defending the action of his piano, if you have / develop good technique, you will get a BBS shave with a Weishi in the same amount of time as it takes with any other razor while greatly reducing the chance of getting a nick or cut. This is a big reason why the Weishi is a great beginners razor - it allows you to develop good shaving technique safely. If you are able to get a great shave with a Weishi, you can get a great shave with any razor ever made. So how do people cut themselves with a Weishi? They do the classic mistake of many cartridge users. They try to increase the aggressiveness / closeness of a razor by adding pressure. Sorry, once you ram any drag any DE across your face, all bets are off. You will slice your face up - even with the gentle Weishi. |

I just recently purchased the new gold plated Weishi from eBay. I must say, the finish is definitely a cut above my Merkur classic. For less than 15 bucks, i was very impressed
. The web photos of this razor were very well done so when i opened the tiny blue box to expose my brand new golden beauty, i was a little disappointed by the handle's sheen. i had forgotten that the web pics were much closer than i though . But man, this is a very classy looking DE. The grip is very deep and so far, hasn't seemed to slip an inch while shaving even with soapy hands. As any TTO style razor, the ease of blade replacement is "Caveman Simple". Now, i know that many of you guys on this forum say that it is WAY to gentle to get a decent shave but i'll have to agree with Brooklynlou about this razor having a defined sweet spot. I have to really rock this baby horizontal to find the blade exposure, but once I found it, it was a smooth gentle shaver. Around my chin I had problems keeping the blade exposure even while contouring to my chin. but overall im getting BBS shaves with this thing . In fact, because of the Weishi's gentleness, i can now shave daily without alot of the tenderness and irritation that my merkur classic gave me . The balance of this razor is fairly evenly distributed and feels slightly heavier than my Merkur. My only problem with this razor is the case it came in. I LOVE the case but i cant stand that "Fresh-cut Lawn" fur they placed inside. But overall this is a well made razor and will most likely become my daily Goto razor. |

Pretty amazing razor for the money. The quality is great for the price. It is not a Merkur but hey it only costs 10 bucks. A little drawback with this razor is it's lack of agressiveness. It is very mild and if your technique isn't right you'll have a bunch of problems getting a close shave. With the right technique you'll be able to get as close shave as with any other razor. I've tested a couple of different blades with my Weishi (Dorco, Derby, Gilette, Merkur and Feather). It turned out that Feather works best.
This is a great razor for a beginner and higly recommended even for an experienced shaver. |

This Weishi razor was my entry into the world of DE shaving. I bought it as part of a "Baden P Morris safety shaver" set.
It was the only razor at the Shaver Shop, which is the reason I bought it, but it was only $25 Australian with the razor and travel case, so it would have to be the cheapest razor I know of. The build quality seems acceptable. It's easy to hold and easy to replace the blades. I guess you'd call it user friendly. I've been using it for three weeks with blades including Dorcos, Derbys, Feathers, Wilks, and Israeli Supers. It takes me about five passes with most blades, and three passes (WTG, WTG, ATG) with the Feathers before I get an acceptable shave. And that's still not particularly close. Given my aim with DE shaving was to get a better shave than a multi-blade, this razor doesn't suit my needs. I've ordered a Merkur HD, and I don't intend to use this one again. |

Price: Widely available and moderately priced.
Quality: Fair to good. Points were deducted for the closing mechanism blade angle. My copy of the Weish holds the blade height on a delta above the guard between one end of the razor and the other. This can impact the quality of save if one is not careful with technique. User Friendly: No adjustments, no settings, easy to operate. The razor is small, lightweight, and handles well. Grip: Positive grip design for even the wettest of hands. Some may find the short handle a negative especially if they have big hands or large fingers. Ease of Blade Replacement: It is a twist to open (TTO). It does not get any better than this. Aggressiveness: I am unable to agree with prior comments regarding a lack of aggressiveness in this razor. My humble opinion is that technique is critical with this razor. Paired with a Swedish Gillette or Feather blade, the correct angle, and 0 pressure and this razor performs at its optimium. Bad blade choice, poor technique, or pressure and one's face can become irritated. Highly recommended for those with sensitive skin and beginners striving to develop good technique. Balance: The overall feel of the razor is a pleasure in the hand. Echos of old school design but with a few short comings in execution. |

I purchased the Weishi Gold which is the heavier model. Its a beautiful DE razor made of quality metal and very nice plating for $15 I think a tiny faint rattle is the clamp mechanism rod in the handle that doesnt affect razor blade clamping.
The plastic case is ok but doesnt latch good. A simple rubber band fixes that. The Weishi DE razor is less aggressive than my other DE razor. Shaving the edge of paper test produced approx 0.5mm ribbon. There was very little whisker noise while shaving whiskers. The extra passes over the skin didn't leave razor burn either. It shaved well with my barbasol aloe and rinsing frequently improves the performance even though it never clogged. A different imported and popular DE razor when shaving grabbed and pulled my whiskers and didn't even shave close and smooth. Shaving the edge of paper test produced a 1.5 mm ribbon. (compare that to my woodworking jack plane) Its no wonder my face was left raw. If you have ever used a cheap famous brand single edge disposable plastic razor that chopped your face apart. Do you face a favor and try this Weishi Gold DE razor. |

The sad thing about this razor is it is often the first DE a person will get because it is quite inexpensive. Unfortunately it is not a beginners razor in my opinion. Finding this baby's sweet spot is not easy, but when you do, it will give you great fun shaves. Not the quickest shaves because keeping the right angle with this razor is best done with really short strokes. Find its sweet spot and you will instantly love this inexpensive, great looking razor. I know I do!

I bought this razor as an entry to the DE world. I have been wet shaving with disposables for years, but wanted to try something more "Manly".
This razor is very good. I get an excellent shave in 3 passes. I have nothing to compare it to for aggressiveness, but the cut is very close and I have not cut myself yet. If you are looking for an inexpensive razor, the Weishi would get my vote. |

I got bored & tried this one, since I got it for cheap ($12) & I wanted a butterfly DE razor. I should have saved my money, because it's not thorough enough for me. I think the reason is that it leaves some lather residue on the skin & then it just slides over the the beard without shaving it off. Even with a feather blade I was not able to get a close shave. I guess if you have light beard & you look for a cheap starter that is well made, it might be something to consider.

This is the most timid razor I have ever tried. It will take about seven passes to get a decent shave. Getting BBS is simply impossible, even with Feathers blades. It must be a great razor for a 14-year-old beginner, but for anyone who has even limited overnight stubble, it is downright useless.
