    Default Which Mama Bear?

I recently tried my first Mama Bear soap - Hydrogen. It lathered really nice, but burned my face especially on the area under my nose and the area between my lip and chin. I assume it was the scent.

So on my list to try are the following. Chime in if any of you have experienced irritation to any of these. I've also reacted badly to TOBS Rose cream and have sensitive skin.

    1. Orange Orange
    2. Marauder's Citrus
    3. Rosemary Mint
    4. Gentlemen's Lemon
    5. Bay Rum
    6. Aged Spice
    7. Sweet Vetiver
    8. Lime

I just ordered the Marauder's Citrus, Basil & Lime, and Awakening (mentholated), and it will be in my hands tomorrow...

You reacted badly to TOBS Rose? Wow...you've got some delicate skin then. In that case, I'd steer clear of any creams that contain essential oils as scent carriers, and go for things that are specifically designed for sensitive skin. Try unscented stuff, or things like Nancy Boy Replenishing Cream, Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort Shaving Cream, Proraso Aloe & Green Tea soap ("White" - ultra sensitive), TOBS Sensitive, that sort of thing...

I don't think it's ultra-sensitive. I've been fine with tabac and proraso cream. I've heard that TOBS Rose has given quite a few people a reaction.

LOL...it's OKAY to have sensitive skin...nothing to be ashamed of, lol.

    I'm just messin' with ya.

Actually yeah, I HAVE heard that some people react poorly to certain essential oils, with lavender and rose being some of the bigger culprits. Still, in your case, I'd steer clear of any EO based scents. Also, depending on your skin type (especially if you are prone to overly dry skin), stay away from limes...

Damn. Lime was one of the scents I really wanted to try. What do you think of marauders citrus?

I won't know until tomorrow, unfortunately, but I was intrigued by the description...I'll give it a whirl and post a review tomorrow though.

    Thumbs up

I use and enjoy Mama Bears soap in several scents,on your list I have the Orange Orange,Bay Rum and Rosemary Mint. I've had no problem with any of her soaps. As you already know they lather like crazy and give an excellent shave. My suggestion would be to email Sue and see if there are any ingredients that might cause skin irritation. Good luck !

I also struggle with irritation from many products. I have Mama Bear's Lime, Basil and Lime, and Rosewood and they haven't given me any problems (some of the cosmetic fragrances did slightly; nothing visible though). I would start with any of the all natural ones (just essential oils) and go from there. That is what I am doing now.

So far I've used Awakenings and the Marauder's. Both were awesome, and built really nice slick lather. The Awakenings was really frosty...lots of menthol and tea tree EO...the cold rinse afterwards literally took my breath away it felt so cold. The Marauders is a nice blend of bay and tangerine, and went well with Royall Bay Rhum as an aftershave splash. The basil and lime is up next, but the scent is really strange...I mean, not BAD, just very...basil...I imagine it'll go great with some Nancy Boy Replenishing balm...cucumber and basil...mmm, face salad...

Great thread! I was also wondering the same thing. Although I have yet to try any of Mama bears soaps.

I too, had a reaction to TOBS Rose Cream, and Lavender. I think i was fine with the lemon lime, and avacado I tried late last week without a problem. Tried other scents from other places too without any sensitivity to essential oils.

I also have heard that Rose and Lavender EO's give the most problems. Also, the amount of essential oil, or synthetic oil the soap maker uses in their product can do it to you too. SO it might not even be the actual scent... but really the quantity they used.

Just passing along what I've noticed for MY skin. I'm not a soap maker either. YMMV

Generally speaking, Bay Rum based scents (so MB's Bay Rum and Marauder's Citrus) tend to cause problems for several folks. Myself included, though I have kept my tub of Marauder's because I really enjoy the scent -- enough to put up with a bit of burn on occasion.

    Default Rosemary Mint

You may find the Rosemary Mint to also be irritating. I have both Hydrogen and Rosemary Mint. Of the two, I consider Hydrogen to have the mildest scent. SWMBO says the soap smells like "Carmex", but I like how it smells. It also has a cooling type effect reminiscent of Proraso cream.
