Default First shave with a 30's Aristocrat! Nice!

Just tried an open comb 30's Aristocrat (with the long teeth!) for the first time today. Used MWF and a Chroma blade from Germany. It is a lot more aggressive than the closed comb 40's Aristocrat version but the shave was great! The long teeth on the open comb gave a totally different feeling to the shave.

That's nice, do you have any pictures?

I have yet to get to my Chroma blades... So many blades and shaves to do!

I'm keeping my eyes open for one of those open comb Aristocrats -- I've always thought it might just be the ticket . . . .

I love my 1930's Aristocrat, it shaves so well for me. I rate it up there with my #16 as my favourite razor (at the moment).

I've had the pleasure and personal favour of borrowing a Made in England #15. It is more aggressive than my #21.

Though I still consider the 1930s aristocrats the most handsome (and want one). My experience is similar to Spinyeel's......for which my wallet is eternally grateful.

When it comes to shaving with a heavy comb, I much prefer it's predessors in the NEW Deluxe and New Standard. If I find either with plating off.....it will be plated in Rhodium.

I'm on vacation right now so I can't post pics of my set until I return. But I will certainly do so. It is a very distinctive razor that looks quite different from other razors.

My favorite razor. I have one in my permanent collection and a dup for daily shaving. You're right about it being a little more aggressive then the closed comb but I really don't find any vintage Aristocrat very aggressive, especially when compared to something like a New Improved Big Fellow or Standard.

Just added one about two weeks ago and using it in the rotation since.

I am a fan of the '40s' Aristocrats and Diplomats, my favorites on the shelf (which includes a Fatboy, a Senator, a Slim, an Aristocrat Jr., an Old and a New and once had many SSs and a Milford or two). The '30s' open comb Aristocrat is now my favorite, using Astra blades and either soap or cream.

Worth checking out if you get the chance.

Here's a photo of Ray's. And a link to the Razor of the Week thread on this amazing razor. They were very fickle mechanically, breaking frequently. Typically the twist to open feature malfunctioned, resulting in the need for very intense torque to crank the silo doors open. So instead of twisting it open fully, you could unscrew the base pole a bit, give a good shove, and the doors popped open. Cranking 'em down required effort, but doable. Guess who has a malfunctioning one, but loves it? Get ready to drool.

That would be great! I am really curious on how the #16 looks.

Sorry to go a bit OT, but is there any place with pictures of the English made gilettes? Would be good since thats mostly what I find here in Sweden.

EDIT: I just realized Achims site has a lot of pictures. Anyone know a site with production info and such?

If you are using Firefox you won't see the all information that Achim has, if you use IE you can see production year info ( that Achim has confirmed via ads etc ) next to his piccies.

This is not my photo but it is my razor. An English #16 I picked up recently. It shaves very well and this one of those that if the house was burning I would run back in to save,

are you sure, that this is a #47? The #47 has a thin handle. Yours looks more like a #15. What is the weight of your razor?
