    Default Hot Towel question.

This Saturday, I'm going to treat myself to a $35 haircut. Once a year or so, I like to splurge like this at American Male Salons. I'm getting "The Worx" signature service.

Part of the service involves a Hot Towel facial.

My question ... should I shave before, or after the facial?

In a traditional barbershop shave, the hot towel moisturizes and softens the beard. But in this case, if you wait to shave after the facial at home, I think that your beard will have already dried out and hardened again, so it probably doesn't matter. In any case, why don't you shave after to see if it makes any difference?

I thought about that ... it will probably be an hour or so from the time I get the facial until I go home. (But I don't want to go straight home, if I don't have to.)

If I shave right before I go, I would probably skip the ASL and ASB so I don't have anything between me and the towel. But if I remember correctly from the last time I did this (about 2 years ago, before I started wet-shaving) they have you to wash your face before they put on the towel.

I suppose I should call ahead and ask them what they recommend. I'm probably not the first customer that has faced (pun intended) this dilemma.

I think that is what I'll do ... with permission, of course. I'll call ahead tomorrow and ask them if this is OK.

They do have a small bathroom where you wash your face prior to the hot-towel facial, change out of your street shirt and put on a smock for the haircut and other services. After everything is done, you return to the bathroom to change back to your street clothes.

I'll have to make it a quickie shave, since I know there will be others waiting ... but I think with a little planning, I can get my routine down to about 5~7 minutes.
