    Default Dry then oily skin

Ok I'm wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me and could offer some advice. After shaving I find my skin to be dry and quite tight, which is quite an unpleasant feeling I might add. But about an hour or two later my skin is back to it's normally oily self. The thing is that balms tend to moisturize well at first but cause my skin to go off the oily chart later in the day... I mean my face feels quite greasy. When I use a splash or apply no AS at all I have to live with tight dry skin for several hours before my face returns to a comfortable moisture level. Any help/suggestion are appreciated. What products should I use?

Note: I've already read the AS tutorial.

I'm in the same boat as you, I have oily skin and no matter what you do it's gonna get oily again, you can try cutting your splash with some witch hazel or water and I only use balm in the winter. Just look on the bright there's a good chance it will take longer to get fine lines as you age. Sorry for not being able to help much.

No problem... It's just nice to know I'm not alone. And delayed wrinkles sounds A-okay to me!

What are you using to shave with? Have you tried other brands of soaps or creams to find something that isn't so drying? Whatever you are using doesn't sound like the right product for your skin type.

Do you generally have oily skin or is your face a combination skin type (dry in some areas and oily in others)? When you wash your face, wait about an hour and press a full-size tissue to your skin. Where are the oil spots?

No I'm fairly certain I don't have combination skin. All the skin on my face, neck and scalp is very oily, particularely my scalp. I just find that no matter what I put on my face, unless I use an AS balm my skin feels tight for about an hour, Mainly right aroung the mouth and cheek bone area. I have a number of shave creams/soaps and they all seem to do this, also any face washes/ facial soaps I use have the same effect. I have found that I do have mildly sensitive skin as well.

I have, however found an AS balm that when mixed with a bit of water, seems to moisturize but not greasify my face (it's one of those hazel nut and aloe mix.) seems to work pretty well. But the issue is really quit minor and is only a slight anoyance, I was simply curious. The odd thing is I would expect to have changes in my skins oilyness in different seasons but the cold really doesn't dry me out.

I am in the exact same boat as you. My face is always oily, buer becomes dry feeling after a shave. I have tried a few different aftershave balms, Nivea sensitive, Body shop brand, and a couple of designer ones I have from some cologne kits. My face gets really bad an hour or so later and seems to stay that way all day , even after washing my face with just water multiple time throughout the day. I am going to try someone's suggestion and try some witch hazel first before any balms.

Sorry I couldn"t help at this time but I will let you know if I find a product or method that helps.

Ya I'm currently using witch hazel based AS balm and it seems to be the best thing so far. Give it a shot it can't hurt.
