What's Spam?

Okay, I'm familiar with spam with email, but what is spam with a forum? Bogus threads? Bogus PMs? Sorry if this is an infantile question.

It's the first rule in the B&B Code of Conduct and I certainly don't want to inadvertantly break it.

Threads started by trolls who join simply to post advertising threads, like cell phones, electronics, etc. Advertising your gear in the Buy/Sell thread is not spam.

Spam is a bad thing! I always thought it was a reference to the meat product or whatever it is in the can by the same name.
