Default Questions about Simpsons Chubby 1 super and best badger hair

I'm just wondering if others out there who have used the Chubby 1 in super or best hair if they could give their opinions about how the hair is? Just wondering if it is anything exceptional worth trying? I think I'm pretty happy in the Rooney camp for brushes, but still have that itch wondering about some other brushes, namely the Chubby 1. Thanks for your help all concerning my questions about what the Simpsons hair feels like.

I was wondering the same. I passed a CB1 in Best on the BST, because I think I would rather spend more and get the softer Super knot.

I have a pre-Vulfix CH1 in Best. It is excellent three-band hair - very soft and luxurious, but still with a lot of body. The CH1 knot is very dense, considerably denser than the pre-Vulfix PL8 Best I have, which has the same size knot and loft. In all, I think it is a very good brush, although I personally prefer two-band hair and a larger size. Also, I am afraid I can't comment at all on how the newer Vulfix-made Simpsons compare, as I've never used one. Still, I hope this helps somewhat.

Oh yeah every little bit helps HoratioCaine. Maybe I'll decide I might want to try for a pre-Vulfix CH1 in Best! Maybe in two-band hair. I ordered a Rooney 3/1 Ebony in Finest last night, so I'll know soon how I like the two-band hair. My brush spree has to come to an end for awhile sadly, until next year self imposed, but I can think about future brush purchases...

So many different brushes, and each one has it's own feel and strengths and weaknesses to it. I know family and friends are thinking I've gone a bit off the deep end lately with my interest in shaving.

Good luck finding one in two-band. They were quite rare. The only ones I ever heard of came out of the Trumper shop in London, where they were actually labeled as Manchurian grade. Virtually every CH1 Super I ever saw was still three-band. The two-band Supers seemed to be reserved for the CH2s and CH3s. Still, one can dream, right? You might get lucky and just track one down. Let me know how you like that Rooney.

A man can dream... A man can dream...

I have plenty of time for that atm since no new brushes for awhile.

Ok I'll let you know how the Rooney is to the best I can. I'm thinking that I'm going to enjoy it quite a bit from what I've read others say about the Finest grade, and just my short experience from the Rooneys I have now I've been well pleased!

I've got a pre-vulfix CH1 in best. The knot isnt as dense as I was hoping actually. It is pretty dense, but not nearly as much so as my Rooney 1/2 in super. Tips are softer though.

In fact - anyone interested in a pre-vulfix Ch1 in best?

I'm one brush purchase away from getting the looney bin called on me, thus the reason for the self imposed restriction for awhile.

With the new Simpsons brushes, I think the Bests are much better value than the Supers.

Also, I haven't seen a single Simfix Super that's 2-band. Yet their Bests sometimes are 2-band. So the situation is reversed from the old days.

I like the chubby 1 best knot alot but the handle was too small when it got slippery. I bought the Duke 3 which has a very similar knot but a larger handle which I really like and its cheaper too. The other brush is something I was working on with a 2 band knot from Golden Nib which hadn't been set.

Nothing against the newer Vulfix-made models, but I lament that these babies will no longer be made....

Forgot about the Duke 3. I was wondering if I might not like the handle for the Chubby 1 being as it is kind of small. How much of a difference is there between the Chubby 1 and Duke 3 antdad1969? Hits you right away there's a difference or takes some time?

    Thumbs up

When you are ready WCS now has the Simpsons line

The Duke 3 is a fine brush...not quite as dense as the CH1 hence the price difference. When I asked about a CH1 knot with a larger handle that's what the forum came up with and I'm glad I bought it. Good value and turned out to be a good all rounder.

Sorry to hijack the thread for a second, but Antdad, your avatar is giving me the creeps. You've taken a beautiful woman and turned her into something fit for a Peaches album cover.

Np on the hijack. Pretty funny! I didn't know WCS now carries the Simpsons line! Fun stuff! More choices to shop from!

It seems an correction/update is in order: the 2-banded supers are back!!

I have to say, those look as good as the originals, and Mike S.'s description sure makes it sounds as though they perform the same, too. I'd like to think those will be available for a while, but something tells me they won't be.
