Default FS: Some 3 Nice Gems w/ Pella Blades

    * ALL 3 SOLD *

    I am trying to clear out some of the duplicates I've acquired along the way. These 3 Gems are great shavers and lookers.

    Each will come with 5 Pella SE blades. If you are set for blades, then I will hang on to them and reduce the price by $1.50 for each razor.

    Prices include shipping to CONUS. Paypal must be from non-credit / non-debit account. Check or money order are okay, but razors ship when payment clears.

    1. Gem FeatherWeight. Shiniest of this lot. Great travel razor. $11

    2. Gem G Bar. Light speckled brassing on the head, but otherwise very clean and shiny. A phenomenal shaver that will put just about any Gillette to shame. $15. (Just saw another G-Bar on the Board here listed for $35.)

    3. Gem 1912. Some head brassing, but still quite good looking. The ornate handle is satisfyingly heavy. A forgiving, but close shaver that provides lots of auditory feedback. $15 SOLD

    It really was the G Bar that led me away from DEs, which I'd enjoyed quite a bit. By the time I picked up my first G Bar, I'd already had and liked the Merkur 34, 38, Fatboy, Slim Adjustable, Super Adjustable, and different SuperSpeeds. The G Bar gave me the best first shave of any of them, and for me, keeps whiskers away longer than any of them. Nice weight to the handle, the slanted end to the handle rests nicely against the fingers.

    I just don't need two of them, you know?

    Default My first GEM

    Well, I received my 1912 GEM from Basset in this morning’s mail and would like to share my first shaving experience. I was tracking it so I knew it would be here, so I had held off shaving until its arrival. Basset was also kind enough to send 5 Pella SE blades which were good as all I had were the box cutter variety.
    I now use a large cup to heat up a wash cloth for proper preparation in the microwave. I also have my makeshift scuttle which is a small chip dip bowl inside a large latte cup with half a cup of water between them to also heat up in the microwave. So I am all set with a nice hot wash cloth and hot lather from Col. Conk’s bay rum puck. After considerable time prepping letting my lather settle for a bit to further soften my not too heavy beard, I start my first strokes. Good on the sides as that’s what get mowed down first. The GEM gave excellent feedback to say it was happily whacking whiskers. My chin and neck followed with only minor weepers. Next and lastly was the most difficult job of my upper lip and under my nose. I immediately whacked off a small flesh colored mole just above the right side of my lip. Good blood flow but I know it will not be too bad because all my cuts stop bleeding quickly with single blade shaves. This GEM is going to take some practice to shave my upper lip or I will have to use one of my DE razors for this part of my shave. My second and third passes were without incidents and I was left what is now the closest BBS yet experienced in my short 4 months of single blade shaving. I read many accounts of those who said this is as close to a straight as you can get. I love my new GEM and look forward to many more wonderfully close shaves.

    The trick to shaving with a 1912 under the nose: Do very little going up-down; the razor head is simply too wide. Do most of your work going sideways, going from the center toward each ear. Then go from the side to the center. Then go ATG (mostly that's upward for me). The loud feedback is excellent for blade buffing.
