I'm curious, if I were to store a brush for a short period of time, perhaps a month or more, would there be any harm in keeping it in an empty toilet paper roll? I'm not worried about moisture or humidity, but if keeping the bristles/hair closer packed together would be an issue. I was just thinking it may be a safe way to store a brush without worry of it getting dirty or damaged. Thanks.

i wouldnt think so if it was dry. However i would perfer something airtight so the crawlies and the like dont get to it.

If it is thoroughly dried, this is a good idea, I also would put it in a sandwich bag to keep any critters and dust out. I am looking into getting affordable containers for storage and to pack in the brushes I am selling for shipping.

My biggest critter fear for brushes is fruit flies, I don't even get bananas ( I love them) because once I got a fruit fly infestation and they were tough to get rid of

This is exactly how Edwin Jagger ships their brushes. Their toilet paper roll is however, a nice cardboard tube with two pieces that slide together. The bristles of the brush are also wrapped in tissue paper. I see no harm in storing a brush that way.

I agree with the advice given about the brush being thoroughly dried. I have had my travel brush (stored in a tube) start smelling a little musty, even after I thought it was adequately dried (24 hours on the countertop). Depending on the density of the brush, the time course for "adequately dried" might take up to a few days. Good luck!

so long as its very dry (that is to say, been air drying for a couple days first) it should be fine

To dry a brush thoroughly will take some time. Although it appears to be dry on the outside, deep down in base of the knot may be still some moisture trapped.
I would say, it takes at least 4-6 days to get it totally dried before it should be stored in an air-tight container.
