Blake - A legend among the voices in his head.
Here is a change of conversation. We tased a patient at work this morning. Tonight took forever. that extra hour sucked. Ten minutes before first shift got there, my patient came out of the room and refused to go back in. A Fort Wayne City Officer friend of mine was on his way out and stepped in to help. She already didn't like me but really hated him and he didn't do anything to cause it. It must have been the uniform. So, she gets locked in the room until we decide what to do. Nurse says we're strapping her down. No problem, we have three city officers and two day shift guys stop to help me. The first officer opened the door and ordered her to back up and get on the bed or he will tase her. Red dot on her and everything but still she refuses. Instead, she tells him he has no right to talk to her like that and can't do anything to her. Wrong answer. I couldn't see completely because he was blocking my way, but I saw her make some kind of movement. I heard that "pop" and the unmistakable sound of electricity having it's way with her. She didn't stop crying for the entire next hour I was stuck there doing reports.
Here's the rub. Our hospital has a huge problem with tasing patients. I have had times (more than once) when city called in several officers to back up. The one time sticks out in my mind in particular. They felt the guy warranted seven police officers. However, the staff would not let them use the taser. What really ticked them off was when the House Supervisor said, "I don't know why you feel like you have to use a taser. My guys don't need one." So, they said, "Fine, let them do it." They literally sat and watched me. I had two new officers that had not been in a fight yet, too. The hospital was extremely proud of us because we did it. I almost caught one in the face, but was able to block it. The new female officer took a foot to the face, however. She hit the wall and almost went to the floor before catching herself on a stool. Like a good trooper, she jumped right back in.
Anyhow, I've gotten side tracked. The point is everyone is really upset about it and Admin will be doing an investigation. The part that might get me in trouble is I didn't do anything to stop it. There were reasons, but that is too much to get into. I won't get in trouble, but this is going to be a touchy subject for a while. What a great end to my day.![]()
