Quick question about paypal. If you have a cheque waiting to clear, so it appears in your balance but isnt available to withdraw, can you still use the funds via paypal? I also seem to have an "available limit" which seems to bare no relation to my salary. Is this an overdraught facility?

Sounds like a question for customer service, but let us know what they say.

I believe that if you have available funds, then you are good to go using paypal for purchases, etc. The check that has not cleared just won't be available until it is in your paypal balance. When you signed up you probably have it linked to a credit card or a bank account so this will be the source of your funds unless you have a balance in your paypal account. I know that once my paypal balance was 0.00, then it started paying thru my bank account. Paypal pays for items you purchase in this order:
    1) Paypal balance
    2) Secondary payment method (bank account, credit card)
    3) Backup method (bank account, credit card)

I had something similar. I had a check of let's say $10 that was frozen, I did another purchase of $15. The $10 didn't moved and I was debited $15 from my bank account. The worse bit is when the money became available, no notice, nothing, the transaction in the history that was saying $10 frozen disappeared

As soon as you know that, at least, you know how the machine works!

Hmmm, looks like I shouldn't count on anything other than the "you may withdraw" amount from my ATM. I know this is in the wrong section, but I was pretty bored at work and thought I could spice up my afternoon with a few guilty purchases.
    Cheers!
