Celebratory goatee-removal

As I keep my head down and try to survive my final week of Student Teaching, I am looking ahead to this weekend for a few reasons. It is the end of this part of my training, it is the commencement ceremony for my Masters in Arts and Teaching degree (although there is still a summer semester... kind of weird timing for the graduation, no?) and it is my first wedding anniversary. To celebrate, I am planning on removing my goatee and thus giving myself more skin to shave! (I have not decided on the mustache yet).

I am worried that, though I have become pretty adept at my cheeks and neck, I will be a newbie again at my chin. That aside, I am looking forward to adding a whole new area of my face to the morning routine! Huzzah!

Edit: Oh man, it will also totally be my 300th post soon! What a week!

You will have some trouble no doubt, how long did you have the goat?

I shaved a mustache that I had for 30 years. I had literally shaved it never before I removed it a few years ago. It took a LONG time to get it where it was the same as the rest of my face shave wise. I would say 4 months at least.

The chin is easy to do, but tough on blades.
For me it's the stiffest stubble and a real blade blunter, but no special technique needed.

Have fun with it Gus. If you've had the goat for a while, expect lots of surprised looks. A few years back I was convinced (bribed with a bottle of Scotch) to shave my goatee, as none of my co-workers had ever seen me without it. The looks that first day were interesting to say the least. The wierdest part was how different my chin felt than the rest of my face, after being covered for almost 10 years. I have sahved it a few times since, so the novelty is no longer there. Next week I'm going to shave mine for summer. First time with the DE, so I figure I'll do it during my vacation, so I have time to perfect my DE technique on my chin before I return to work.

I don't think I could ever deal with getting rid of mine...it's like getting rid of a less physically useful version of my left arm or something

Both my parents did not notice I had shaved my goatee off. My brother and most of my friends did though.

And yes, you will feel like a beginner when you shave the goatee. And my advice: Don't even attempt a BBS shave, but settle for a single WTG pass for at least a week. Your skin isn't used to shaving yet. (I started with a DE after I grew a goatee, so that area was really new to me)

I say get rid of the whole thing, moustache and all. I went from a full beard of more than 12 years (which started as a goatee for about two years) to clean shaven, and I am glad I did it.

Just shaved my chin for the first time in over 25 years about a month ago!
My oldest daughter was the only one of the kids that ever seen my _naked_ chin before!!
I use a straight most of the time and getting the hang of making a AG pass took some fine tuning.
A safety razor shouldn't be to bad to get the hang of.

I am thinking the big shave day will be Monday afternoon...I don't want to have a choppy chin for photos and such. Also, I have to give out a test for the Freshmen on Monday, and if I come in looking totally different I won't hear the end of it.

Thank you all for you kudos; I feel a lot of camaraderie on this site, which is kind of amazing considering the normal tone of the internet.

Holy :9898: That's a long time to have facial hair. Then again, I've course I'd think that, considering I'm not ever 30 years old yet.

I've never gone more than a week with facial hair. Although my mother has dared me on multiple occasions to not shave for a few weeks to see how'd it look. Sadly, I can't because my job requires me being clean shaven.

This is the exact reason that I don't shave my goatee off. My wife likes it, so...if it ain't broke....

Don't be too worried. Use good technique and you'll be fine. This morning, I shaved my goatee that I've had for at least ten years. I've taken it down to stubble with electric clippers several times, but this morning was the first time an actual razor blade has touched my chin and upper lip in years. I have an important day next Monday and wanted to get a couple of shaves of my chin and moustache area under my belt with plenty of time to recover if things got frightful. It went surprisingly well.

It was also my first day going with an Astra SP. My neck was covered in weepers. It was a bloodbath. The bloodiest shave I've ever had. But my chin and upper lip are BBS and doing quite nice, albeit very naked feeling. This probably points to the fact that I was very nervous and careful doing these parts and I had poor technique on my neck. Plus, those Astras are sharper than any other blade I've tried to date, I guess.

The only complaint I have about my goatee shave was that I apparently missed that little divot in the bottom of my chin. Tonight I noticed some stubble there. A quick clean-up took care of it, though.

I can't think of a better way to put a smart a*$ freshman off his game, than to show up clean-shaven, then hand out a test!

I have had my goatee for nearly 10 years now, and have only once shaved it off.
My girlfriend has never seen me without it.

I do have a deal with myself though, once I get a big 8/8 wedge, I am going to take it all down, then promptly start re-growing it.
