Best place to find old DE razors

I was curious of were some of you look to find old vintage DE razors. Antique shops, Pawn shops, yard sales, flea markets? And for those of you that do go hunting for vintage DE razors what are some of your most memorable finds and were did these finds occur.

Just curious because i have a few antique shops around were i live and was wondering if they be good place to look for hidden razor treasure.

I can find lots of them in local antique stores, I've also had good luck on Ebay.

My best one's are a gold Gillette New NOS I found locally for $10 and a Gillette Old model from ebay for $15 that came in a metal box. Both razor and box were black from oxidation and when cleaned turned out to be silver plated!

A good idea is to hear around with your old relatives and friends, they use to have at least one old DE razor at home that you probably will get for free.

Many of them switched from DE to electric/multiblade system, but not many of them throw/sell their old razors.

Or else, Ebay as someone said.

I've gotten most of mine in antique malls ... check the glass display cases, that's where they usually are kept. Generally, its one vendor per case, and since many of them specialize in their collectible items, its likely that any one case will contain multiple razors, and the next case, none.

But they are getting harder and harder to find. I looked through every antique store I could find between Baltimore, Philadelphia and South Jersey until I found one that had good selection and fair prices. I've pretty much cleaned that one out, though ... I've been back several times and bought 5 or 6 razors from them, and the rest that are still there are mostly pretty sick looking.

It seems like most of the Gillettes have been snapped up ... there are still a good selection of GEMs available if you want to go the Single Edge route.

In the meantime, watch the BST forum here ... you'll never know what you'll find being offered. And if there are special items that you're looking for, that's the best place to ask around and find them.

The B/S/T section is always a good place to look.
I tend to frequent the antique shops in my local area, normally once a week.
The plus side to antique shops is that once they get used to you coming in they will tend to put razors aside for you and will try and get more in for you.

+1 on BST. If you are looking for a fair deal, that's the place to go. If you are looking for a bargain ($5 Gillette) then the market/antique store is where you will have to look!

Antique Malls are where I found my 3 gillettes. It isn't easy though and time consuming. Also you would want to look in the glass cases BUT I have found several in spots you wouldn't think to look (2 of mine came from looking in a pile of old gardening tools).

You could be there for hours with no luck.

+1 on the glass cases...keep your eyes open in antique shops. antique malls, and flea markets. Most dealers will put the safety & straight razors with "man stuff".....I've seen them displayed with lighters, compasses, pens, police badges, decks of cards, small tools, etc.

Everyone has pointed you in the right direction. I just wanted to make a few little notes.

1. The people at the counter at antique stores usually are wrong when they say there are no razors.
2. Goodwill and resale shops often won't sell razors or any other hygiene related items.
3. There are lots of us around, and probably near you, so find the antique stores that are not as accessible. I frequently travel and find razors in small towns the most. I recently found a store in Lubbock, TX with hundreds of razors.
4. They are commonly in glass cases, but one of my better finds was a coffee mug in an antique store off of the highway.
5. The old people you know probably have razors that they would give you, shortly after poking fun at you for shaving with something so old.
