If you will enjoy shaving more having a nice variety I would say
    BUY MORE!
Buy as many as you want to try and get a hold of.

I used to HATE shaving and now I love it so I am going to stick with it.
So if it helps you enjoy a daily task that you otherwise might hate, just give er!

    Try
Proraso, my favorite in different varieties.

I think most gentlemen here would encourage you to buy lots, and lots, and lots!! BUT, what they would also say is, if you are just starting out, to get used to one shave set up for a little while at least. There are so many variables that in the goal to getting the perfect shave you have to change things gradually at first. So get used to shaving with the gear you currently have and then go crazy!

What I would also suggest is to consider soap. I don't know your personal financial circumstances but I see you are a student, and they don't usually have too much cash. Soaps last longer than creams so are better value for money. Many B&Bers rate them higher than soaps anyway so perhaps your next purchase could be a soap? Take a look at the soaps forum and see what you reckon.

Since you won't be having any money troubles (I read your other post), I'd say get several good soaps instead of creams. Most guys that go into soaps don't use creams much. I can't point to any quantitative data demonstrating that soaps are "better" than creams, but they just seem to perform better. Check out the reviews, and welcome to the B&B

Might as well try a lot of them. Get a bunch of samples. There is a list somewhere of places you can e-mail off for them, probably mostly creams, I guess. Some places charge a bit. I use soaps and creams, and often together in the aforementioned superlather. I like a variety myself. Virtually all of them seem very good to me.

I use creams; just have never felt like using soaps. I would certainly recommended trying samples first. Shaving Essentials carries a sampler pack of all TOBS creams for around $20; and Rorschuck at www.badgerdecants.com sells individual samples of TOBS and others in several sizes. G.F.Trumpers will send a sampler pack of several of their products, including creams, for about $5.00; visit their site. After that I would start with perhaps three tubes; tubes in case you travel and in case you tire of something. Then you might switch to the more cost-effective tubs. Just which ones, brand or "flavor", is going to be highly individual.

Try and get a sample of something first before buying an entire tube / tub, this way if you find you don't like or can't use a product you will have only spent a fraction of the money buying a sample compared to buying an entire tube / tub.

I have done both. When you have some top quality products they will last a long time. I find that several months of one product does get a little boring.

Might I suggest a compromise. Instead of getting lots of stuff, some of which you may not like, get just a few that you can rotate daily, weekly or whenever you please. A few high quality products will give you excellent shaves, nice variety and avoid the disappointment of a pile of inferior products that are sure to find you if you seek to have lots of stuff.
    Relax...Take it easy...Enjoy the lather.

    Default My take

Best noob soap: Omega. Cheap, lathers like no other soap, forgives mistakes w water.

Best cream (period): T&H Ultimate. As above, but expensive.

I can tell you that if I had money I would have an INSANELY large collection of shaving products.

If I were you I would buy:

Soap (Tabac, Proraso, Penhaligon's BB, Trumper's Coconut, MWF)

Cream (Proraso, TOBS St James, TOBS Eton College, TOBS Mr Taylor, Vulfix Sandawood, Body Shop Macha Root, T&H 1805, La Toja)

Aftershave (Proraso splash and balm, Trumper's Skin Food, AV Ice Blue, Old Spice, Floid, Osage Rub, Ogallala Bay Rum, Speick, La Toja)

    Just some ideas!

Then I'd buy a bunch of vintage Gillettes, some GEMs and a few merkur DEs...

... and don't forget an exclusive straight razor to shave with on the weekends ;)

And I think some of the aftershaves will smell a little to much gentleman for a 15 year old kid if you know what I mean

I have 1 soap and two creams. I think If I were to buy any more, it would be soap samples - with all those samples and making uberlather, they would last a fair while I think.

I would suggest starting with a couple basic soaps/creams and learn to build your technique with them. I've discovered I can get great results with with simple VDH soap.

I started out a year ago, and have since found I enjoy creams more than most soaps.

That said, there are few "must try" for anyone.

    Tabac Soap
Prorasso Shaving Cream - Very Mentholated.
Taylor of Old Bond Street (TOBS) and the St. James is quite good.
    WARS
Mama Bear's Soaps I really enjoy the Brute scented one.

Later, you can definitely get more stuff, like Truefitt & Hill's Grafton shave cream.
