  1. Default Newbie Lather Question

I'm new to wetshaving and still waiting to pick up an actual DE razor. I've ordered some Tabac soap and been following the instructions here on how to build a lather. My question is what is the proper consistency? I have no problem making a lot of lather but not sure if its a good consistency.

The lather will be kind of, well, like whipped cream, except denser. Feel it with your fingers when you make it; is it slick? Does stay in a "thick" layer when rubbed inbetween your fingers? Is it thick enough to have soft peaks, but thin enough to apply evenly?

Every soap and cream is different, and will be affected by the water you are using, and the brush you are using. It is difficult to pin down a precise definition of "proper lather" because of this; each shaver will also be better suited for a different lather as well. Some may shave better with a "wet" lather, while some may get the best results with a "dry" lather. When you have the right lather, though, you will know.

Welcome, good luck, and may The Lather be with you.

as youre building it, occasionally rub some between your fingers and see how 'slick' it is. You'll soon work out just how you like it.
