Default Gettin' the hang of it

I've now taken the plunge and am finally getting the hang of it.

I picked up a Parker 86R razor that came with 100 Sharp blades. For the soap I found some that's handmade near here (Rochester, NY). I think I'm going to have to swap that for something better. I just can't get it to lather up well.

I'm also going to have to get a better brush. The one I have is from Walgreens. Let's just say that I'm shaving more bristles of the brush from my face than actual hair. ;-)

I do love the shave though. It beats my Fusion razor hands down.

I've spent a lot of time reading through the posts here, and want to thank everybody for the advice and great tips.

I think I'm going to pick up a tweezerman brush and Colonel Conk's soap to replace what I'm using now. So far, I'm really happy with the Parker razor, but am looking forward to hitting up yard sales and estate sales this summer to see what else I can find. :-)

Welcome aboard. Looks like you are on track to upgrade your kit the right way. Conks is a good entry soap and Tweezerman makes a good brush. Once you get them, you'll find your shaves improving even more.

The Tweezerman and the Col. Conk are both inexpensive choices that seem to get a lot of support here on the forum. Probably a good place to start.

The home-made soaps can be hit and miss. Some are excellent and some are disappointing - I wouldn't give up on them altogether, although it does make sense to start with something with more of a track record, like Col Conk, and then to explore from there.

    To many more great shaves!

yeah, some support for the Colonel! A great soap--I get phenomenal shaves with the almond, and the scent is quite pleasing.

the difference between a rubbish brush and a good brush, and a good brush and a great brush will really rock your socks off.
