Default Can you bring back a badly stropped blade?

    Hi everyone,

My first straight is on it's way at the moment. I've seen peoples experience of learning to strop and that noobs can often dull the blade due to poor stropping.

My question is, if I do a poor job of stropping the blade, would a good strop bring the blade back or would it need to be honed again?

    Thanks

Unless you damage the edge (as opposed to just blunting/rounding it), all it takes is a few strokes on a finishing hone or pasted strop.

Not a big deal at all - but you need to make sure you have the right hardware (i.e., a finishing hone or pasted strop).
    Chris.

It just depends. I've had pretty good luck bringing back badly stropped blades simply by stropping them correctly on linen, but it just depends on how badly the blade was stropped in the first place - it is possible to do real damage with a strop. If you bang the edge into the bolts or clip for example, that will possibly chip the edge and require honing, and I've actually rolled the edge by flipping the razor and having the edge scrape down the side of the leather handle where it was stitched to the strop.
