Default The Poor man's Shaving Scuttle

Well I've been doing some reading regarding Scuttles, Mugs and alike.

And come to the conclusion that warmer lather is always a good thing for a great shave.
I've always struggled to keep my lather warm throughout the whole shave & came up with a ingenious and importantly cheap way of heating my Edwin Jagger shaving bowl without the rather dangerous looking electric heaters.

Having just finished a tub of cereal I wondered if the bowl was small enough to fit inside the plastic tub. It did with great effect !.

I've drawn a line in permanent marker to ensure I don't overfill the tub with boiling water from the kettle, and its still toasty and warm even after 20 minutes.

We'll have to see how tomorrows shave goes!.

This is ingenious. I too have struggled keeping my lathering bowl warm and was thinking of using an essential oil burner as a skuttle type thing but this is probably easier and safer.

    Great job.

I have a scuttle that I use once and awhile. More often than not I just float my bowl in the sink.

I have tried floating my bowl in the sink, but the weight of the shaving brush causes the bowl to sinks!.

Keeping the brush and lather warm isn't easy when your also fighting for room in the sink, hopefully this will be the best of both worlds.

The Edwin Jagger bowl is great, creates lather like I can't believe.

Being in the UK, I went through them direct.

At only £20.00, it's a steal when you feel the quality of the porcelain.

The tubs a breakfast cereal from one of the nationwide supermarket chains.

I drain the water so the bowl bottoms out in the sink.

I don't need to fight for sink time, I lock the door....

I've found warm lather a MUST HAVE since incorporating a small stainless steel dish in to my morning ritual. I first run the tap water as hot as it'll get into a large mug, soaking my Best Badger brush and Futur razor with Feather blade to warm my tools and the sink too, whilst I'm showering and softening my stubble. I then re-heat the tap water and insert the small stainless dish into the large mug - the metal conducts the heat quite well - squeeze the water out of my brush and tease on a bit of soap of the day and build a satisfactory and WARM shave mix. The mix stays warm between each pass and I love it!

+1 I either float a bowl or an Old Spic mug in a sink of hot hot water.
