    Default Joe's Crab Shack

I am parked in Beaumont, TX for the night, on my way to Raleigh, NC. I noticed a Joe's Crab Shack just about a block from the truckstop and am going to walk down there for tonight's dinner.

They aren't the fanciest seafood place one can visit but their food isn't half bad.

Unfortunatley, with my seafood allergies, I don't frequent those sorts of places. However, there was one back home that I know was quite popular. Enjoy! I'm still trying to decide if I want to hit the bar tonight for some wings, beer, and IU basketball on ESPN.

The one near where I live used to do all you can eat crab legs for something like $15 every Tuesday or Wednesday night. They were great! Unfortunately I don't think they offer this special anymore.

Been a while, but I've been there. It was alright. I enjoyed it. The cajun stuff I would maybe stay away from, but generally pretty good food.

I think this is the way with chains - The food is usually consistently pretty good, but pretty much never exceptional. (I hear Ruth's Chris may be something of an exception to that rule).

    No seafood after all

The last time I visited there one could smoke in the bar but not in the dining area. It seems that since my last visit Beaumont passed a fascist smoking ban that includes bars. The bartender told me that their business had died since the ban went into effect because all of the locals were now going to the places just outside city limits to avoid the ban. He's looking for a job in one of those places now.

As a smoker I feel that places like Beaumont don't need or want my sales tax revenue.

I walked back to my truck, fired it up, and drove the 30 minutes to the first truckstop in Louisiana. I'll spend my money here. Good Cajun food.

Sorry about your misfortune. Those bans get passed because a large part of the public views a smoking section in a restaurant as being akin to a peeing section in a pool.

I rate Joe's Crab Shack on par with Red Lobster, but with lot's more noise.

I looveeeee....let me reiterate..LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVEEEEEEE Joe's crab balls. As far as seafood goes, I agree with everyone else, but their tables are cool, the atmosphere is pretty cool, and the food is decent. For seafood, I'm usually down in malibu at my friend's family restaurant Neptune's Net. Can't beat walking across the street after a surf for free food and familiar faces. And beer!

I like the soft-shell crab there.

Ruth Chris's is a huge exception to the rule...top notch steak, but rather expensive too.

Thanks. I'm sure my little one man boycott of those cities and states doesn't really make any difference to them, but it does to me.

I've been known to park at the truckstop in Lebanon from time to time. There just accidentally happens to be a bar next door. :D

When you can go Cajun rather than chain, what's 30 minutes?
