Default With all this talk about Iron Chef..I am hungry and have a two part question for you-

    All-time favorite restsurant?

Best meal you ever had? (could be had at a place other than ATF Restaurant)

Me- Toss up between Dino and Galileo Laboratorio in D.C.

Best meal....The New York Strip steak and truffle mashed potatoes at Prime Steakhouse in the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

All-time favorite: The Original Pizzaria Regina in Boston's North End. The classics never die.

Best Meal Ever: 9 course "Tasting Menu" at The Grill Room at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans. http://www.windsorcourthotel.com/web...grill_room.jsp

Second Best Ever: Venison Debris Bicuit at Commander's Palace the night I got engaged.

    Debris:

"Ever picked the shavings off a freshly carved roast? When a customer asked Simon Landry to add the bits of roast beef that had fallen into the gravy while he was carving it to his sandwich, he replied "you mean some of the debris?" And just like that, another definitive Mother's term was coined. " - http://mothersrestaurant.net/fun_facts.htm

Favorite Restuarant: Toss up between Lalime's in Berkeley CA (Listen up you bay area folks) and Bella Trattoria on Geary Ave in SF.

Close third: Carlos, in Roanoke, VA

(Note, I've eaten at a lot of good places in NYC, but none I would put above any of these three).

Best Meal Ever: Cooked by my Grandfather, former owner of Outrigger Seafood in Myrtle Beach, SC. His secret fruit salad, with grenadine and amaretto. Fettucine Alfredo. Marinated pork tenderloin with brandy/cream sauce, served with southern green beans. Blackberry port crisp with vanilla ice cream. Man, that was a good meal. And left me rolling on the floor.

Wow! Really Moses? We haven't gone to Carlos yet. We will have to change that. Have you ever been to Coach & Four?

We have found the culinary abilities in Roanoke to be a bit lacking. Especially since a certain little restaurant closed.

Well, it's been a while, but every time I've been there, I was very very impressed. The service is generally excellent as well. It is kind of an interesting menu - mix of brazilian specialties with more typical continental fare. Both I found to be very good. In all fairness, it has been five years since I was last there. Hopefully it is still as good.

I have not been to the Coach & Four. Also not certain what the certain little restaurant you refer to is?

There was a french place I used to here was very good. Never got a chance to go myself. Unfortunately don't remember the name. A man's name, I think - started with an A, perhaps.

The little restaurant would be our little restaurant that Chris and I used to own.

Not sure about the french place you refer to. There are too many restaurants in this little city, and the culinary landscape changes quite frequently.

Carlos still wins local awards. So I'm sure they are still as good as you remember.

Aha. That would make sense. Too bad I don't think I ever had the pleasure of eating there. As far as I know, anyway....

Oh, the place I was thinking of is Alexander's.... Not sure it is actually french, in particular, although it was described that way to me.

    Now I feel silly.

We haven't eaten at Alexanders yet either. But the whole staff of Alexanders used to order food from us. They were great customers!

BTW, if you had eaten in my restaurant you would remember.

    Hands down...best meal...a culinary experience...

    French Laundry

Words can't describe what a wonderful experience we had. The food was outstanding and the service was stellar. It is not inexpensive, but in my opinion it was well worth it. If you ever get a chance to dine there, do not pass it up. It exceeded my expectations (which were pretty high) and definitely lived up to the hype.

My neighbor, who has dined numerous times at Taillevent, La Tour D'Argent (a dump), Trois Gros, and countless others, maintains that there are no great restaurants since Alain Chappelle died.

    A bit harsh, I know.

I always doctored. One egg = some actual protein. Handfull of frozen peas = veggie serving. Like you say, a little teriyki or the like = flavor.

    Cool

My Favorite = Three "Argentine" po-boy from Green New American Vegetarian here in Tempe, AZ. Its strips of seitan mock steak sautéed with caramelized peppers and onions, vegan mayo and spicy chimichuri sauce, served with thyme seasoned French fries!

This isn't really a meal, but an order of beignets w/ a Cafe au Lait at Cafe du Monde, followed by a brunch at the Court of Two Sisters.

    I love New Orleans.

La Plazuela in the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mexican and New Mexican cuisine to die for. (And if you like guacamole, they actually have a guy that comes around to your table and makes the guac fresh at the tableside.)
