    Default Best blades out there?

I hear that the Israeli Personna blades are pretty good. I have seen them on eBay at low prices, and was wondering on your take on these blades? I also use 7 am blades, but find the Personna much better and longer lasting.

Any other suggestions for good and reasonable priced blades?

For good blades at reasonable prices, Derbys are very good. I have also taken a liking to Astra Superior Stainles - these ares sharp and smooth

The Red IP is an excellent blade, and perhaps the most blade for the money available today. Gillette yellows shave a little nicer, but they are at least double the price.

yellow 7 o'clock sharp edge are very good blades, and can be had at decent prices, if you look around...

    Sorry to hear that. Seriously.

Good blades are Astra, Personna Red, Crystals, Gillette 7'o'clock Green or Yellow, Gillette "Swedes", Derbys, Feathers in no particular order.

Be aware that some blades work for some people and some others just don't.

And then there's 7am Blades. They just simply don't work.

I buy those red pack Personnas very cheaply and find them to be excellent blades. I use them in all my Gillettes and they are sharp and long lasting.

I've been shaving with a red IP blade all this week and just went back to my super-thin Gillette blade because, for me, it gives a much better shave. This is especially true for the last couple of shaves. The Super Thins, which I got from Singapore are probably going to become my permanent choice, though I'm still waiting for my 10 Feathers to arrive. I'm going to sell these red IPs at the end of this week when I'll be able to use the B/S/T.

Astra superior platinum's are my all time favorites. I like Derby's too but they don't feel as buttery smooth and I can pay almost zero attention with Astras and still get a great shave.

In fact Astras are so good I may have to cheat on my two straights for a day or two... Please don't tell my straights!

I will second the Astra blades - just a sharp fantastic all around blade.

I find Crystals, Red IPs, and Derbys to be good reliable blades - and reliably cheap, too! And cheap lets me use a blade twice & ditch it w/ no regrets. (My blades are ALWAYS fresh & sharp that way!)

If those work well for you, stay with them. The "I must test all the blades available"-madness never ends. Trust me, I know. I have a pack or two of almost everything.

If you do get curious and absolutely need to start trying things, you could get a sample pack from West Coast Shaving or similar.

For me the Israeli Red and Derby seem to work best so far, also Bic works in some razors but not in others..

Thanks guys - what you know about safety hazards with chrome plated razors? Anyone know info about their health risks if you cut yourself, and prolonged use of such blades?

There was a post on this very question a few months ago...I seem to remember it going no where.

Why does this question keep coming up? Where did you see that prolonged exposure to chrome/chrome coatings were dangerous?

I would also back the Astra-SP as the best blade for sharpness to smoothness ratio...it is excellent on both fronts!

Red pack personna are super comfortable to use (my main blade at the moment). They may not be a sharp at astra-SP but pretty close.

Feathers-excellent, scary sharp though, not confident with them yet.
Derbys-best results so far, must try the others with super lather to determine.
Astra super platinum's-great all around blade, i find them a tad bit rougher than the derbys

    all excellent, ymmv

    YMMV

Astra Superior Platinum and Feather. Those are the best I tried so far. I still have to try a lot of them but those two are in my stash!
